Team Self

Filed under: 5k Training,Food for Thought,Gratitude,Health/ Fitness,Life — gardener @ 6:51 am

The title of this post may seem very self absorbed- but actually it’s more self- care than anything else.     This year- I have come to certain realizations that SO many things no longer work in my life-    Things I once loved no longer bring me joy-     Such is the ebb and flow of life-  but rather than become complacent in my journey- as I somewhat feel in many aspects I had-   I decided, after much thinking and contemplating- that I needed to switch things up a bit.

You only need to know me in my everyday life to know the kind of person I am.   I’m very social and love people.    Because of that there tends to be this assumption that people make that my life has this perfect rosy tint to it.    While I lead a very blessed life- it’s far from perfect and I struggle with myself from time to time as much as the next person.  Also, there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t miss being back ‘home’ with those I love and care for there-   It’s the blessing and curse of living in a space other than what you grew up with.  It has afforded me many amazing opportunities and wonderful people, and I am so grateful for that-   but I also miss my family and friends ‘back’ home’.     It is one of those things I am used to- but it is always there.

During this process I’m currently in-   I’ve decided that I need to be able to think of my own needs first- before those of others-  so hence the title of this post-    also hence the decision to join the gym and to spend more time taking care of myself- albeit a little later in life than I should have started-   Better late than never right?

So this is where I want to write about that journey to self-  to finding a balance in a world that is constantly connected-   I know that living my best life possible is going to mean letting go of some things.    Some of which will be much easier to do than others..

Stay tuned if you are interested in the journey…

Hint of Fall- in August?

Filed under: Life — gardener @ 8:21 am

Hey y’all- It has been a while. Life has been going at its usual fast pace and I’m yet to find the balance that I need to manage work, blogging, social and everyday life stuff. I’ve decided that it’s about time to work on a schedule that will work best for me- Something that will give me more structure to be able to get things done that I want to get done.

I have created schedules but they aren’t with everything and I need something that has everything- work-exercise- social- etc..

In the meantime- I’ve started to detect a hint of Fall in the air. I know some people may not recognize it- but the air has shifted. The feel is different, crisper, cooler. It’s my favorite feel. I’m excited for the Fall and all that comes with it. It brings me joy.

In the meantime- I’ll continue to enjoy the beauty that summer has given us. After all- my tomatoes are just starting to get ripe.

What are you feeling joyous about as we head into the weekend?

Tick Tock

Filed under: Life — gardener @ 1:56 pm

Things have been Cray to the Z around here lately with work and also getting back into my regular exercise routine. Thursday is the lunch I’m catering and fingers crossed that it all comes together well and that everyone enjoys themselves. Since I’ll actually be there during the entire time- It will be odd hearing people talk about my food. I do believe that’s the one thing I struggle with the most with what I do- I’m so grateful for feedback, but at the same time, it feels so odd when people are oohing and aahing over things I’ve created.

Tonight I overheard someone say- “You know- everyone sees people make cakes and thinks- Oh I can do that- but then they make it, and it’s disgusting. THIS is cake- and not many can do this.” This was over the cake I’d made for a customer and it made me so happy to hear. It’s why I do what I do.

Once this week passes, I’ll be on the downhill slope to vacation in London. I still have work, but not so much that I feel like I’m swimming in work. I’m grateful, but I have so much to do before my guest arrives and the fun begins.

Happy weekend y’all. I promise I’ll get back to regular posting again soon.

Work

Work has had me really busy the last months and while I am extremely grateful for that- I also know that some things have lost priority in life- one of those things being this space. In the midst of April, not long before Easter, my computer also decided to have a mind of its own and passed away an untimely death- so it’s been in the shop since it was under warranty.

I saw this morning that the repair has been made- but what exactly was wrong with it- I still have NO idea. Hopefully I’ll receive it this week and I’ll have more of an idea of what happened and also if I need to purchase an extended warranty to keep myself protected. It isn’t exactly what I want to do, but since this computer went haywire I don’t want to be without protection.

I am making some big changes in my life- which is going to also mean re-prioritizing life in general & that should mean more time for blogging, as well as other things.

Live continues to move at a quick pace- vacation planning in the making along with so much else. What’s up with you?

Time Flies

It has been a busy few weeks and with us being gifted some pretty amazing weather, I’ve been hard pressed to find any desire to come inside, much less sit in front of the laptop. Today, the weather shifted and it was not only rainy, but also chilly and seemed more like Fall. I did manage to duck out between rain showers and get in good 5 mile work out- so that was the silver lining. I’m on day 18 of Whole 30, and I am feeling fabulous.

I am finally back in my work out groove and adding the Whole 30 for an extra reset is the boost I needed. Bring on London! I’ll be ready!

Have Guitar will Travel

Filed under: Life — gardener @ 10:14 am

When you are a music lover and are traveling what do you do? You hit up guitar center dallas to see what they have to offer. Personally, if you know me then you know that I don’t play any musical instruments, but that’s exactly what my guitar playing friend recently did when he found himself in Dallas on business. He even found a few favorites that he’s trying to decide whether to wait a while or to pick one up for his upcoming 40th birthday bash. Either way, I know once he gets it- we will all be enjoying his new muse.

Spring Cometh

Filed under: Food for Thought,Life,Seasons — gardener @ 10:18 am

Even though there is still quite a chill to the air, and with today’s rain it’s downright cold- I can see signs of Spring everywhere.  I’ve been getting out a lot to try to get in more daily exercise and the crocus are starting to bloom, daffodils are blooming, plus I’m seeing life in the forms of new growth on the trees and shrubs that have been bare for quite some time.   It brings me joy.    Something I hear people asking quite a lot is what a persons favorite season is.

I am someone who fully loves each season for all that it has to share.  I see each one as a gift and when they start to ‘unwrap’, it is always a great source of joy for me.

The daylight hours are getting longer each day and that in itself brings me a lot of joy.   It seems like a time of new beginnings, change, and possibilities.

What brings you joy?

Free Lunch on Valentine’s Day

FullSizeRender (6)A few days ago I joined in on a ‘Give Away’ that one of my Instagram followers was doing for a free lunch on Valentine’s Day. I thought it sounded like fun especially since I love trying new places, plus we had no plans to celebrate today.

To my surprise, I actually won the give away and spent the afternoon with my favorite guy at this cafe I’d never been to. Since I was craving salad, plus I’m trying to slim down- I opted for the warm goat cheese and spinach salad and I am SO glad I did. It was delicious. I skipped the bread since I’m trying to keep carbs somewhat at a minimum, but the salad- out of this world. Marcel had a club sandwich and french fries, which also were a win.

The food was good, the vibe good- and the coffee also a winner. Can’t beat that combination. Oh and did I mention the people were also super friendly?

What are you doing for Valentine’s Day?

Helping Out

Filed under: Life — gardener @ 11:10 am

Happy Valentine’s Day! I spent the afternoon out and about with my favorite guy. We had a good lunch, plus great conversation. He enlisted my help to find our neighbor’s wife a good deal for him for some new equipment for his band. I was happy to spend a little time checking things out for them, but didn’t take me long to be able to share that she could get 0% interest on instruments at musiciansfriend.com, which will mean a great deal to her, I know as they just recently had a new addition to the family.

Today and every day, we should share love. Even those little things of looking something up for someone or being able to help them find a gift for someone else can make a difference to them.

Happy February

Day three of the second month of the year and I heard through the grapevine that we’ll be getting six more weeks of winter as Mister Phil saw his shadow.     Quite truthfully-  aside from the grey days and a few days of really cold weather, we haven’t seen ‘that’ much winter, so I wouldn’t mind a bit of snow.

I know-   my summer-loving friends are cursing me under their breath about right now, wondering how I could dare wish for such a thing when there are sunnier skies and warmer weather to be had.    I am a love-all-seasons kind of girl, and I do love the coziness or hygge of the winter months.   I’ve been getting some writing projects done, working on various organizing projects, plus work has been keeping me busy as well.  Add the social activities and life has a good buzz happening.

What about you?  Do you prefer the hustle and bustle of Summer or the coziness of Winter?
