Staying Young

Filed under: Life,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 9:41 am

For those of you who know my mom, you also know that she looks great to be just over the age of 60. She doesn’t have any wrinkles and doesn’t use anti wrinkle cream, because truth is, she doesn’t need it. Even though I’m a little over 40 (20 years younger than mom), I also know that I look younger than my age. I can only hope that when I get to be moms age that I look as great as she does.

Many people think that the key to looking young is in the genes, but I also happen to believe that lifestyle plays a huge part in that. What do you think?

Sharing the News

Filed under: Holidays,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 2:41 am

I don’t know about y’all, but when the holidays roll around, I find that I don’t just think about gift ideas for people that I love, but when I come across things that I think my friends would benefit from, I want to share it with them. I have a friend who loves to travel, and she also happens to be expecting her first baby in January, and when I saw baby travel gear, I couldn’t help but think about her and how she could benefit from anything to make her traveling with the baby easier.

I’m excited for her and her husband and look forward to meeting baby Luca when he’s born. It won’t be that long now.

For the Holidays

Filed under: Holidays,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 10:22 am

Marcel and I were talking about Christmas today when we were on the way to the doc to get his stitches out and I made the suggestion that we do a few home improvements this year as opposed to buying each other Christmas gifts. Neither of us really need anything, and I saw some beautiful wooden blinds that I would love to have for our bedrooms.

We have shades but have been talking about wooden blinds for a long time, and I love the selection that I found. It meant that I could get the two colors that I wanted, one in a deeper wood color for our bedroom and a lighter color for the guest room. Then again, black may also work in the guest room, because I’m working on some film grain shots to hang in there for art, and the room will be black and white with a touch of red.

I think home improvements are a great idea instead of Christmas gifts, especially if you’re like us and don’t really need anything but have home improvments that you’d like to make. Definitely something to consider.

Updates Everywhere

I’ve been crazy busy all day so I haven’t had much of a chance to do the 30 Days to Greater Happiness, which means that y’all will get two tomorrow. I’ve been trying to play catch up, plus I had Bible Study today. I also tried to updated our navigation system only for it to tell me that we didn’t have enough space to update the newest map, which means I’ve got to order a micro sd card to allow extra space for maps. It will make things much, much easier.

More from me tomorrow, including the 30 days to greater happiness for today and tomorrow.

Chow for now!

In Control- Somewhat.

Today I find myself feeling slightly better than I have the past few days.  I can’t even begin to express how grateful I am for that.   I find when I start feeling overwhelmed and a little out of sorts that I tend to retreat into a little ‘rabbit’  hole and try to avoid much more then basic convesations with people.   It makes it easier to not say things when I get annoyed, plus it gives me the opportunity to think and reflect on why I’m feeling the way I do.

I appreciate y’all who have commented and who have reached out to check on me.  It means a great deal.  I do believe that part of it is an adjustment period for everything that is going on in my life.   I know that once JJ is house trained, that things will be a little easier.    I do believe that giving in to doing what needs to be done as opposed to fighting it because I’m missing this, that and the other that needs to be done has helped.

I do have some anxiety associated with not getting my work done on time, and because work depends on me being able to concentrate, I can get overwhelmed.  That’s why I’m typing this right now as opposed to working.   I needed a little break.

The great thing is, Marcel is off for the next few days, which affords me to sleep late, eat breakfast and begin work much earlier.  For that I’m very grateful.

Someone mentioned yesterday that I like to be in control of things, and I never really thought much about that until it was mentioned to me.  It wasn’t mentioned in a negative tone, although the first thing I thought of was a certain person who remains nameless, who is attempting to make the lives of some  of those I love the most miserable with her need to be in complete control at all times of any and everyone in her environment.  That’s a story for another time, or maybe not at all- we’ll have to see about that one.

Anyway-  I started thinking about it, and this person was right-  I really do like to be in control of things, or at least things that are concerned with my own life.   I like to have my ducks in a row, and I like things to flow a certain way- and when they don’t, I struggle with it.

Maybe we are all this way a little.  Maybe that’s why when Marcel suggested that I look into refurbished laptops as opposed to buying a new one, I said no. Ok, well maybe that’s overdoing it a little. I know they are probably great, but I had in mind something in particular that I wanted, and when I didn’t get the Mac, I at least wanted the other.

What about you? Do you think you like to be in control?

Seasons

Filed under: Life,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 7:10 am

I’ve been thinking quite a bit about Autumn. Even though the temps are still somewhat warm, I have noticed a different type of ‘cool’ in the evening air. There is a crispness about it, that is the sign that Autumn is coming. I’ve noticed that boots have hit the store shelves, and I’ve been eying a really cute leather and plaid pair. Marcel told me to buy them, but I don’t know. I’m hesitant. I haven’t tried them on, because I know if they look cute, I’ll indulge. I’ve also been thinking about a pair of Danskos for walking. They look comfortable, and they would keep my feet warm when I’m out walking in the winter. Decisions, decisions.

What is your favorite thing about Autumn/Winter? I am definitely not a fan of the shorter daylight hours, but I do love the temps, soups, and the colors of Fall. I even like the nakedness of Winter. Every season has it’s own unique beauty.

Allergies and Sinuses, Oh Bah!

Filed under: Life,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 2:36 pm

My bath water is running, so this is going to be quick.   As much as I love traveling, I’m always happy to get home and relax for a little while, even though the itch to travel never seems to stop.   Once I get rested, I’m ready to start planning again, and I’ve been doing just that.

My allergies have really been bothering me lately, and I’m almost out of allergy medication, so I called the refill line today at the doc’s office, and I should be able to pick them up tomorrow.   I’m not sure that they are doing everything they could be, because I seem to still be having more problems than usual, even with the medication.    It seems like I’m not the only one though, I’ve heard more stories of people saying their allergy and sinus issues were higher than usual this year.

One of my friends did tell me that I should look into getting a Nettie Pot to wash out the sinus cavity.  I did see it on Oprah a while back when Dr. Oz was on, and it did look interesting, and I’ve  heard many rave reviews about it. I’m going to look to see if I can find any Drugstore.com coupons and order one from them if they carry them. I’ve ordered so much from them in the past, and have always been satisfied with their products.

If I can’t find one there, then maybe I could find Amazon coupons and order one from them. I remember when Amazon was books only, but times have changed- you can find everything but the kitchen sink at their site, and who knows, maybe you could even find that if you tried!

Have any of you tried the Nettie Pot? What has been your experience with them? I have heard that you have to make sure that the water is lukewarm- not too cold or hot, but if it helps, I’m all for it- even if the concept is a bit odd sounding.

Time to dash before my bath water runs over. Please feel free to share your Nettie Pot experiences if you have any. Inquiring minds want to know.

Must Be Love

Filed under: Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 1:13 am

Either my darling husband is sick, or he’s feeling mighty generous today. Out of the blue, he just asked me if I wanted to go to a store that I love, that he hates to do a little shopping.

I thought I must be dreaming, but you know I said yes before he had a chance to change his mind. I also told him that I wanted to stop in at another store, because I’d seen a pair of sandals in their sale paper, and I still have no summer sandals. I tried on 5 or 6 pair yesterday when I was shopping with Desere, and nothing really fit the way I wanted it to, so I thought I’d try these.

He said ok, so I guess we’re off to shop.

Time to Shop

Filed under: Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 10:50 am

To know me is to know that I adore shopping, but as much as I do- there are some things that I don’t enjoy shopping for. Of course, those very things that are not ‘fun’ to shop for, are the very things that we need.

Case and point- this morning I noticed while taking a shower that our shower faucets are in need of replacing. Marcel mentioned it a while back, but truth is, I didn’t pay much attention to it- this morning I did, so that means shopping in the near future. Truth is- I’d much rather be shopping for jewelry, or clothes- or handbags. I guess it can’t always be fun and games can it?
