Work

Work has had me really busy the last months and while I am extremely grateful for that- I also know that some things have lost priority in life- one of those things being this space. In the midst of April, not long before Easter, my computer also decided to have a mind of its own and passed away an untimely death- so it’s been in the shop since it was under warranty.

I saw this morning that the repair has been made- but what exactly was wrong with it- I still have NO idea. Hopefully I’ll receive it this week and I’ll have more of an idea of what happened and also if I need to purchase an extended warranty to keep myself protected. It isn’t exactly what I want to do, but since this computer went haywire I don’t want to be without protection.

I am making some big changes in my life- which is going to also mean re-prioritizing life in general & that should mean more time for blogging, as well as other things.

Live continues to move at a quick pace- vacation planning in the making along with so much else. What’s up with you?

Research for Friends

I was visiting with a friend a few weeks ago and he wanted my opinion on something. He knows that I am one to do research when it comes to online shopping- so I usually am fully informed as to what’s out there before I make a purchase. Because of that- he asked me what I thought about http://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-audio/alesis-io4-4-channel-24-bit-recording-interface. I love helping people and being able to give an opinion, especially when it’s something that I ‘know’ about- but since I don’t know much about purchasing musical equipment, I told him I’d have to do some research and get back to him. Does anyone ever have that with friends? Thankfully he was excited that I would be willing to do the work for him- so that’s how I’m spending part of my Sunday.

What are y’all up to?

Technology and Finding Answers

Filed under: Techy — gardener @ 4:17 pm

One of my favorite things about the Internet is being able to check out sites and places by reading reviews like the ones at Cozy Winters Reviews. Before I order ANY product, travel to any place, I always check to see what others have had to share about their own experiences, and make decisions based on that. It has saved me from buying some products I may have been sorry I purchased, plus it’s also been the deciding factors for me making purchases. Technology- I love it!

Help When You Need It

Not too long ago, I was talking to a friend of mine whose daughter is absolutely swamped in school. She’s a senior in high school this year, taking advanced classes, plus she’s also been taking a couple of college courses at the local Junior College. She said that right before mid-terms her daughter has four essays due, plus still has to study for her exams on both the high school and college level. We were both in amazement as to how she was managing, with all the late nights and early mornings.

She confided to her mom last week that she isn’t going to be able to get it all done, so she’s found a professional who will write your essay for you. This is her second time to use the service, and she said that she’s convinced with her full schedule it’s the only way she’ll make it though.

I, for one am so glad that these services exist. They definitely make life easier.

Going Digital

Have I ever mentioned how much I absolutely LOVE the digital magazines on my iPad?   I do.   I’ve gone digital on all my regular subscriptions (O Magazine and Southern Living) and because of the overall affordability of digital- (and all the great coupons Zinio sends) I’ve now got subscriptions to ALL of my favorites-   Taste of Home, Rachel Ray, Food Network, Martha Stewart Living,  HGTV,  Donna Hay, Reader’s Digest, Cosmopolitan and the list goes on…

I download them to my device when it’s time for the new issue and read them at my own leasure-  mostly when I’m on a trip somewhere or traveling.     I can take months and months worth of magazines and stacks of books all tucked away in my iPad-   There is nothing better for anyone who loves a good read or a good magazine.

Go To Girl

I love that I am my parents ‘go to’ girl for when they need help with anything related to the computer. If they are having issues- can’t quite figure out how to do something, or even need to find a particular product- I’m their girl. When they were looking for some screen for the back porch and wanting the best price possible- they called me, when diddy needed to find hydraulic swing clamps for his neighbor, who doesn’t own a computer- he called me. I’m happy to be able to be there for them, even though we are far apart distance wise.

It’s the beauty of technology and I figure after all they’ve done for me in my lifetime, it’s the very least I could do for them.

Help Where It’s Needed

Since Facebook is ‘the’ place to be- I’ve often cited that it’s the place that you can find out everything you ever wanted (and didn’t want) to know about any and everything. It’s also a valuable source of information and a resource to be able to help people when they are struggling with something like when I saw that a friend was in search of a San Diego Employment Lawyer for a work situation that she’d encountered and was unsure how to proceed. Because of the huge impact of social media- people were able to step in and offer her advice on who to contact and how to get her situation resolved quickly.

It’s one of my favorite places- and the perfect way for me to keep in touch with all my favorite people. Like everything else- it has it’s downfalls, but on the whole- Facebook is one of my favorite virtual places.

Fun and Photo Sessions

This past weekend I went downtown for a Senior portrait photo shoot with a very sweet friend. She had asked me before we ever came, if I would mind doing her graduation photos- and I was more than happy to give it a go. While downtown we came across a beautiful st francis statue for garden and took a few shots near it. At the end of the session I ended up with close to 500 photos. Some were obviously not great, but some ended up really good. I’ve got to finish going through them and get the proofs onto a cd for her soon. It won’t be long now before we head back home- and I need to have them done before we fly out.

Can’t get Enough of Coupon Codes

Coupon codes- I love them. Seriously, they probably rank at the top of my list of favorite things. If I am planning a shopping trip- I first look for online coupons before I go. I print them out and take them with me. (Trust me when I say Google is your friend on this.)

When I shop online- if I don’t have coupon codes in my email, I Google the retailer and see if I can find something. Funny thing is- 9 out of 10 times I find something.

Case and point- EVERYTHING I ordered online this Christmas season had a coupon code of some sort. Earlier this week- went shopping in town and had coupons- additional 30% off everything- including sale items… PLUS had a 10.00 off the total coupon. I ended up spending 50.49 and my total savings- 91.00!!!! So I saved twice as much as I actually ended up spending. Yep Yep- that kind of stuff makes me HAPPY!

So before you buy- do your research and it could save you plenty of moolah this holiday season and EVERY day!

Christmas Shopping

Marcel made a mention a while back that maybe it was time that we both started thinking about new computers. Of course- little does he know, but I’ve already been looking at ultrabook devices for him- and have a couple that I’m considering. Since we both use our computers for entirely different things- (Me for work- and him more for play), I figured his would make a good Christmas gift- and I could always get something for myself in the new year.

I know that Christmas is still a little while away, but I’m hoping to have a list of all the gifts I need to buy by the time we arrive home for the holidays- and that way all I need to do is buy. It sure makes life easier.
