On the Running Trail

20121012-232605.jpg I don’t know how many of you who read this space are aware of this, but I have a goal of running my first 5k when I’m home for the holidays this year. It has been on my radar since our last trip home and even more so now.

In preparation, I’ve been running some and walking almost daily. Where I’m at right now is about 4 miles daily- sometimes more. It feels good, and on the days that I can’t- like today, I can tell.

The good thing is, my body far more capable than my mind says. My limits are few and I plan to break through more and more of them.

Winding Down

It has been a busy week and we are tapping on the heels of a busy weekend with Marcel’s birthday celebration this weekend.

Once it has passed, I plan to actually unplug for a few days, with the exception of Pinterest and a few other little things.

Is everyone a member? If you aren’t you are missing out. I find the best ideas there for baking and cooking, but also things like making classroom furniture look more hip and trendy, plus making the most amazing things out of what others would consider trash.

I’m getting some ideas for Christmas projects started. I can’t wait!!

Happiness in a Cup

I  was at a restaurant for dinner not too long ago and when I ordered coffee- this is what they gave me-  “Happy Beanz”.  The name alone made me smile, but the coffee was delicious!

I’ll admit that I was a bit skeptical since they used to serve my beloved Illy coffee, and I was sad to see it gone, but this gave Illy a run for the money.  It’s still not my beloved, but it was really good and with a name like Happy Beanz- how can you go wrong?

Let them Eat Cake

Last week (and the week before), Marcel asked what I’d like for my birthday this year. Since we are trying to save moolah- I told him that I really didn’t want anything, but he hasn’t been having any part of that. Over the years he has given me two charm bracelets– one silver and the other gold. I wear them both, but these days I tend to lean towards the silver.

As for my birthday- I’ll just be happy to have a great day in the company of people who love me, and maybe a little cake. Ok, definitely cake.

Happy Birthday Month to Me!

I can’t believe we are already six days into the month of July and six days into my month long birthday celebration. Today also happens to be the birthday of my best of friends- and I’ve found myself on more than one occasion wishing that I was there to celebrate with her or she here- just like we did back in ’09. Oh the fun we had.

Next Thursday is my ‘day’- and at this point I’m still unsure how we will spend the day- but I do know that it will be a good one. If the weather permits- maybe we’ll go to an island in the North- and have dinner out on a terrace somewhere- otherwise- the sky is the limit really.

Beautiful Day

I woke up this morning to another absolutely gorgeous day. I told myself that I would do a little tidying around the house, but the truth is- I don’t want to do anything but prop my feet up and spend the day outside with a good book and lounge in the shade. In fact- I think I’ll spend some time doing just that. Right now- my sweet little pup needs to go for a walk, and it couldn’t be a better day for it. He’s sitting here staring at me- waiting patiently, so I guess I’d better make it happen.

What’s happening in your corner of the world?

Let’s Party

Filed under: Holidays,Home,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 9:12 am

I’m finally feeling somewhat better than I have been in quite some time. I’m still not 100% but I know that I’m well on my way and that makes me happy. I was talking with a good friend yesterday about all the great plans happening this summer and I’m excited about them all.

Not only am I hosting several parties, but I’m also going to be attending quite a few, along with several other fun outtings with great, great people. I don’t know about you, but there is something energizing about being around people who are positive and fun- it fills my soul with joy!

Today, we finished doing all the flower planting- got the fountain running and I’m sitting outside right this moment and thinking about Globe String Lights Outdoor and how great they would be for evening entertaining. One thing I would love to find is a huge old tin tub or maybe even a huge flower pot to fill with ice and put beverages in to keep them cold. Yes indeed- I’m ready to get these festivities started.. and the planning has already started.

Planning

Yesterday I started making a list of the things that I would like to pick up before heading home this year for the holidays. Some items are for gifts, and others are just to have while I’m there- such as the Valrhona chocolate that I plan to use for specialty chocolate bars and in my cupcakes while I’m home. One thing I did see the other day was a print at one of the local museums that I’d love to pick up and give to someone on my gift list. (Not mentioning any names in case they see this.) I definitely don’t want it to get bent or creased, so I’m going to pick up a shipping tube and put it in my carry-on and that way it should stay safe all the way home. Plus I can wrap it with the tube around it and it will stay secure until the print is framed. Even though it’s months away- I’m already getting excited!

Surprises Brewing

Filed under: Holidays,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 10:54 am

In a few weeks, Marcel and I will celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary. It’s hard to believe that it has been that long in some ways- and in other ways it seems like we’ve been married even longer. I try not to make a big fuss about it- but we do usually do something special, and I’m usually the one who mentions it first. I guess that’s a woman thing. I was suprised yesterday when I walked by Marcel’s computer and he was doing a search for wife gift ideas, which made me smile. He shut the laptop lid so I couldn’t see, but he wasn’t quick enough. Obviously someone is thinking of our upcoming anniversary and I can’t wait to see what he comes up with.

New Year- New Possibilities

Day one of 2012. Wow! A clean slate and a year filled with potential and endless possibilities. I’m excited about it. I’m excited about the realizations I had towards the end of last year and how it is going to help me increase my potential and better understanding of myself in this one.

January 1, 2012.

Today I’m Grateful For:

  • My Family-   They are always there for me through everything- and I’m so grateful.   What would I do without them?
  • My Friends-  Some of them I count amongst my family and again- I’m so grateful and blessed to have such a precious group of friends.
  • PJ days-   Today is one of those lounge around the house and just catch up on little things days- and I love it.
  • Learning to let go-   I’ve had a problem with letting go of things lately and I’m learning to let go of the things that I really shouldn’t be holding on to.   It has been a little painful, but it’s a good thing.
  • Possibilities-  potential and a new day and year to do my best!
