Tiptoe Through The Tulips-

Earlier in the week- Marcel had a day free, and after having a pretty slotful day- we decided to set out on a quest to find some tulip fields.   It was time for my annual ‘tiptoe through the tulips’.   Since Old Man Winter was late arriving and lingered far longer than anyone expected-  the tulips are actually just starting to bloom.

As you can see, it was an absolutely gorgeous day- and we found fields of daffodils and hyacinths, but none of my beloved tulips.

Since then we’ve had more sunshine and great temperatures, so my hope is that we’ll find some time in our schedule this coming week to get out one evening after dinner and go for a drive.   Maybe then a little tiptoeing will be in order..

Until then- I’ll just enjoy the mild temps and gorgeous sunshine..

Fun and Photo Sessions

This past weekend I went downtown for a Senior portrait photo shoot with a very sweet friend. She had asked me before we ever came, if I would mind doing her graduation photos- and I was more than happy to give it a go. While downtown we came across a beautiful st francis statue for garden and took a few shots near it. At the end of the session I ended up with close to 500 photos. Some were obviously not great, but some ended up really good. I’ve got to finish going through them and get the proofs onto a cd for her soon. It won’t be long now before we head back home- and I need to have them done before we fly out.

Happy Christmas Eve!

After waking up to the sound of rain falling- I’m peering outside as I type this and see that the sun has made an appearance. Mom says that it’s really humid out- with mild temps, but tapping on the heels of all that is yet another cold front, so cooler weather is yet again on its way. I’d forgotten how crazy Southern Mississippi weather can be this time of the year, but it’s a lot milder than years past- or at least that’s how I am remembering it anyway.

It’s hard for me to believe that it’s Christmas Eve. Tomorrow, Christmas Day. Tonight we will spend the evening with people I love dearly, and tomorrow we’re having a relaxing and laid back Christmas- with our festivities happening for supper instead of the late lunch that it has traditionally been. We’re also having soup- which I love the idea of- plus Christmas breakfast- something I don’t think we’ve ever done since we always eat so early.

What are you doing for Christmas? Whatever it is- I hope you find yourself surrounded by much love and joy!

Making a List

In addition to packing and prepping our home for our upcoming vacation- I’ve been spending some time perusing the Internet looking for Christmas gift ideas- and making a list (I haven’t checked it twice, yet!) of what I want to buy for whom. I’ve also come across some great cushion deals, which have been a source of inspiration for some decorating ideas I’ve got brewing.

I’m excited-and it hit me today just how excited I am. Lots to get done in the time between now and our travels, but I’m looking forward to every moment.

19 Days

That could be the name of a song couldn’t it? I guess that popped into my mind when I typed the title because one of 3 Doors Down’s album was called 17 Days. It was also pretty great- but then I guess you could say I’m biased since they are from my home town.

The reality is 19 days is the time left before we head home for the holidays and I am EXCITED! I know- imagine that! I still have a lot to get done here before we head out- but once I am past this weekend’s cupcake madness- I should be home free with more time to get things done.

We’re already making plans and setting up little gatherings- and I can’t wait to see everyone and spend time with them. I’m looking forward to having coffee in the morning and watching the sun rise over the field- and hanging out with my brother, plus getting to know his girlfriend, whom I already really like! SO much to look forward to- 19 days and counting!

One Month and Counting

One month- I’m on the official countdown until our trip home. It goes without saying that we are extremely excited about it. Today we took care of the forms we needed to get done- and this coming week, I’ll get one of my passports renewed and we will be ready to go.

I still have a LOT to get done in this time frame, but it’s hard for me to believe that we are down to the final count. It seems like we haven’t been home in years- although I know that isn’t the case. Let’s get this party started!! The countdown has begun!!

Planning

Yesterday I started making a list of the things that I would like to pick up before heading home this year for the holidays. Some items are for gifts, and others are just to have while I’m there- such as the Valrhona chocolate that I plan to use for specialty chocolate bars and in my cupcakes while I’m home. One thing I did see the other day was a print at one of the local museums that I’d love to pick up and give to someone on my gift list. (Not mentioning any names in case they see this.) I definitely don’t want it to get bent or creased, so I’m going to pick up a shipping tube and put it in my carry-on and that way it should stay safe all the way home. Plus I can wrap it with the tube around it and it will stay secure until the print is framed. Even though it’s months away- I’m already getting excited!

Counting Down

I have so many photos to go through and share- along with my experiences from our travels, but I probably won’t have the opportunity until mom and diddy leave in a few days. I am really feel sad about them leaving, and it makes me realize after spending these last two months with them, just how much I miss being so far from them. There are times when I feel torn- and quite honestly that I really want to pack up and move back near them- now is one of those times. They aren’t getting any younger, and neither am I. I am scared I’m missing precious time with them.

Right now- I will just enjoy these last couple of days and try not to think about their pending departure. I hope that they have enjoyed themselves as much as I’ve enjoyed having them.

One Last Thing

I know I said I wasn’t going to talk about London here- but while we were there- we did see the changing of the guards. I don’t know what I expected, but apparently when the Queen is in (which she was) there is a huge ‘to-do’ and things are on a much grander scale than normal. The band played, including a couple of steel drums and even a flute. They played several James Bond tunes and some that I didn’t recognize. Others may disagree, but it was well worth the two and a half hours that we were there in total.

Go to London (101 in 1001 Days Project)

Number 101 on my Day Zero project list of doing 101 things in 1001 days was to take a trip to London. I did. In fact, we got back last night and all I can say is I “Heart” London. I will be writing much more about it on my other blog- but since it was on my list and I do all the updating for it here- I wanted to ‘check it off’. The one thing I really wanted to do but didn’t get to was to see Wicked- but I did see the theater and even shed a few tears. Marcel said he’d take me, but by the end of the day we were so tired, I wasn’t sure how I’d manage the following day- but I’ll be going back again- that’s for sure.
