Learn to Cook Something that I’ve Never Cooked Before- (101 in 1001 List)

One of the things on my 101 things in 1001 days list was to Learn to Cook Something I’ve Never Cooked Before. When I created the list- I didn’t have anything in mind- but on May28th I ‘officially’ completed this item on my list when I made Lemon Curd for the first time ever. It was the filling for some Lemon Meringue Cupcakes that I was making to keep myself busy after losing my uncle and it also being the birthday of my aunt and best friend for years- We lost her suddenly in March of 2010, so it was a hard day and I needed to keep busy- cooking was my way to do that.

The Lemon Curd turned out great and so did the cupcakes. I’m now moving on to other curds- and will attempt Orange Curd in a few weeks, which will be the filling for some Orange Cream cupcakes that I’m hoping will taste as good as they sound. We’ll see about that.

This Little Piggy- (101 in 1001 Days)

  Oink-Oink-

One of the things on my 101 Things in 1001 Days List  was to Save 100 in 2 Euro coins.  I wasn’t sure how long it would take me to complete this task, but I figured since I saw it on someone elses list and since I do have access to 2 Euro coins- why not?

The piggy to your left is the pig I’ve been saving them in and a few days ago I decided to pull the plug on the bottom and see just how much I had saved.  Imagine my surprise when it was over 100.     Marcel wanted to know what I was going to do with it- and I told him that I was going to save it.

I’ve since moved the 100 to another container and left the excess in the little plastic pig.    Since another item on my list is to save 1 dollar a day for the 1001 days- this gives me a good start.    Once I have another 100-  I’ll move it to the other container and so forth until the 1001 days are completed.

Originally I had an idea that I’d use the money to buy something extravagant for myself- but I’ve since realized something else that I can much better plan to use the money for.    I can’t really talk about that right now- but I’ll get back to y’all on that when the time comes.   After all- it can’t happen until I’ve checked it off my list.

There are other things that I need to check off of my list- so expect to see more updates in the near future.

From the 101 Things in 1001 Days List

One of the things that I had on my 101 things in 1001 days list from DayZero was to Make a new friend.   I’m not sure why I put it on my list- because I admit that I have been extremely blessed with some pretty amazing current friends- but since adding it to my list- I’ve met and become friends with quite a few new people.    I wasn’t even ‘prowling’ the streets begging people to be my new friend (insert laughter here)- it just sort of happened.

Since I have this slight obsession with cupcakes these days- I can honestly say that friends are the cupcakes of  life and I don’t know what I’d do without mine.  They are all wonderfully unique and I love that about them all.

In addition- that also means that it’s something I can check off as “Done” on my list.

There are other things I’ve also done recently- and I’ll be sharing those too.

#43- Don’t Log into Facebook for a Week

I’m happy to be able to check this off my list of 101 things in 1001 days, as it was one that I wasn’t sure how easy it would be to pull off.

The idea was to spend one week without logging into Facebook, and I really thought I’d miss it. I also thought that by not logging into Facebook that I’d accomplish a lot more, but that was a quickly dispelled myth.

My favorite people are on Facebook. Some people whine and complain about how they don’t like Facebook (but yet, they’re still on there), but I absolutely love it. Seriously, it’s a plethora of most of my favorite people in one place and I love it- It makes me seem a little closer to them, as opposed to the miles that separate most of us. There are some people that I love that aren’t on Facebook and I have to rely on other methods to keep in touch with them, but that’s ok- I can’t have ‘everything’, now can I?

I will admit- that aside from one private message that I received from a friend that was urgent, and I didn’t have an email address to mail her, I logged in and responded to the message a few days ago and then logged right back out. I didn’t look at my wall, I didn’t read the latest feeds, nor did I respond to the other messages that were not urgent. (In case you were wondering how I knew I had a private message- I do get emails that let me know I have private messages on Facebook.) I decided that since I did log-in to respond to the message (I was there maybe two minutes), I added another hour to my week, which has now officially come and gone.

Now- time to go see what everyone has been up to.

Clean Out My Closet

Clean out my Closet is number #21 on my list of 101 things in 1001 days list that I’ve compiled (that you can find by clicking here). I’m happy to say that I have checked that monsterous task off my list and even had a little help from Marcel.

The closet needed cleaning out before we took our vacation, but I still had not taken the time- and that meant a moving box filled with clothing that I’d bought while at home- that still had not found a place in the closet. It also meant that I hadn’t been wearing any of it either, but now I can.

Surprisingly- I have a few things that I actually tossed in the garbage, and about 5 things that I’m giving to the local thrift store. The rest has been organized and found a place in the closet where it belongs.

When I first started earlier today- I was slighly overwhelmed, but now that it’s done- I am SO happy. I’ve also asked myself what took me so long.

If you’ve been putting off cleaning and organizing your closet; Make like “Nike” and ‘Just do it’. I can assure you that you’ll be glad you did.

Done! #64 on My List

Several days ago my friend Kimmie (who also has her own 101 in 1001 list said that I had already done #64 which is Influence a person to make their own Day Zero List.   I hadn’t even thought about her being inspired, since I saw us as doing the project together.   I still had plans to  mark it ‘Done’ on my list but hadn’t had the opportunity.

My friend Maggie has also decided to add this to her ‘to do’ list, and since she’s also very creative- I’m looking forward to seeing what she comes up with.   I have to say- that I’m really enjoying the fact that this list is going to require me to do some thinking outside of the box, along with planning.

This is a ‘fun’ project, but I also consider it a tool to help me grow as a human being.  I’m curious how my views will change (if at all) after completeing the 1001 things.

Say You Will.

Whew! I did it- Since I was home with a case of vertigo this weekend, I used my time wisely and finished compiling my list of 101 things to do in 1001 days. Some things will be easy to do and others- well not so easy. I love a good challenge and I also encourage y’all to join me on this journey by creating your own list.

Say you will!

101 in 1001 has Begun

My plan was to start the Day Zero project of 101 things in 1001 days on the first of April so that I could actually build up a list of 101 things before I started checking them out. Well, you know what they say about the best made plans. While I only have 30 something items on my ‘to do’ list, I’ve already completed one, so I decided to start writing now, since I want to write about the list as I complete items on it.

If you’re curious about what’s on my list so far- you’re welcome to check it out here. That’s my public profile which shows all the exciting things that I plan to do. Some are easy- and others are quite the challenge.

Now that I have all the logistics out of the way it’s time to get to the first ‘done’ item on my list.

Walk either to or from Bobbi’s house.
I checked this off my list yesterday, but I’m just getting around to writing about it.

Bobbi is my friend who lives in the town next to mine. Her house is a little over three miles (or around 5k), but in all the years we’ve been friends, I’ve never walked to or from her place. It isn’t that the distance is daunting to me- because it’s far from it. I added it to the list for several reasons: 1-Because I really wanted the exercise, 2- Because it was something I’d never done and I really had no reason as to why I hadn’t and 3- Because there’s a fairly remote stretch of road between our homes and I wanted to overcome any idea that I had that it may not be completely safe. It’s a great part of town, it’s just a little remote and not somewhere you see people walking. You see a lot of people biking and driving, but not walking.

Yesterday I visited Bobbi and left her house with the idea that I’d catch the train home. It isn’t far. When I got to the train station, I told myself not to be lazy- and to just ‘keep walking’, so I did just that. I didn’t have the right shoes on, and ended up with a pretty nasty blister in the process, but I did it. PLUS, I did it in UNDER the time that Google Maps told me that it would take to walk it- 49 minutes according to Google Maps and I did it in 45 (which included a stop to watch a lady train her dog to herd sheep).

Are any of you doing the 101 in 1001 challenge? If so, let me know so I can follow your progress. My friend Kimmie and I are doing it together, so we are challenging each other as to what we will put on our lists. It’s a fun project and you have 1001 days.

New Project- 101 Things

I recently came across the Day Zero Project where you can create a list of 101 things that you would like to do in 1001 days. I thought it sounded like an interesting project, so in the next few weeks I’ll be compiling my list and hopefully start checking things off that list as early as April.

I will be sharing the list, and then as I actually ‘do’ things on that list- I’ll share (hopefully with a picture) and more information about the actual ‘thing I’ve checked off’. I think it’s a fun project and also think it will be interesting to see how it all comes together. I would love for you to join me (and many others) in this journey. Please be sure to let me know if you do- so I can see what you’re 101 things are! Who knows- maybe we can cross a few things off our list together!

More on this coming very soon-
