Kind of Gross

Filed under: In the Neighborhood,Life — gardener @ 6:22 am

This is gross- but when we took JJ to the vet earlier- we walked past this bench and there was an elderly lady and a boy- who looked about 10 sitting together. She was atempting to remove pimples from his nose- or at least that’s what it looked like to me. I tried not to stare- but honestly- I thought it was a pretty gross thing to be doing in public. My thoughts were that it should be done in the privacy of someone’s home- but certainly not on the street.

Coastal Living

Filed under: Home,In the Neighborhood,Seasons,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 9:20 am

It’s no secret that I talk to mom on the phone every day and in fact, most days several times a day. We are all planning a trip later this year to places that have yet to be determined but since it’s going to happen during hurricane season, diddy is looking at honda generators and thinking about replacing the one that he’s had since the late 70’s. I think he bought it right before hurricane Fredrick in 1979, so I’d say that he’s gotten his money’s worth out of it, but he said it’s definitely time for something new.

I probably would have replaced it long ago, simply because once a hurricane has hit- there are no generators to be found for a reasonable price. This will also give them peace of mind if they are away and one hits. At least then my brother or someone else in the family can take care of things without having to worry about mechanical issues. Some people think it’s premature- but it’s all part of living in the South.

Interesting Game

Filed under: In the Neighborhood,Life,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 6:45 am

A few days ago Marcel came home from work telling me about some of his friends who were planning some sort of camping trip where they play this hunting game and search for each other. I guess you could say it’s the adult version of hide-and-seek, or at least that’s what it sounded like to me, especially after I saw the eotech binoculars that Marcel said he wouldn’t mind having. Of course, they aren’t just any pair of binoculars- they’re binoculars with night-vision.

I have to admit that the camping trip and games sound like fun- with the exception of the sleeping in tents part. My days of sleeping on the ground in a sleeping bag are far behind me.

Loving that Vitamin D!

This morning when I woke up I was thrilled to see the sun streaming through the window. The days have been so grey as of late that I’d almost forgotten what it was really like to have a day filled with blue skies and sunshine. I almost didn’t notice the cold temps. Truth is, I didn’t care about how cold it was; all I cared about was being able to take JJ outside and spend some time soaking up Vitamin D.

Since Marcel had the day off today- we also picked up a few groceries. I ended up spending more than I anticipated, but the house is now re-stocked with healthy foods, with the exception of the chocolate bars that Marcel bought.

Dinner was left-over minestrone soup and momentarily I’ll put on some make-up so that I’ll be presentable when Desere gets here. I’m not worried about her seeing me without make-up (she’s seen me without it often enough), but since we’re going to the movies tonight, I don’t want to scare the masses.

I’m hoping that tomorrow brings us more of the same in terms of sunshine so that I can spend a little time outside soaking up a little more of that Vitamin D. It has definitely given me some extra energy!

Is That Sunshine I See?

For the past two days I’ve been keeping a close eye on the weather here and they have said that today and tomorrow would bring rain and possibly light snow. I honestly don’t mind the rain on the days that I can stay inside in my PJ’s (like today) and since I haven’t seen any snow this year, I wouldn’t mind that either- as long as it found a way to stick around for a few days.

Not so surprisingly, neither was the case today. It has remained around the freezing point today- maybe a little higher with grey skies most of the day. Now, as I sit here with the laptop in my lap and me stretched out across the love seat, I noticed the afternoon sun shining on the wall. Looking outside, I see a pinkish glow to the sky in the west. It may sound odd- but for some reason it makes me smile. Little things, my friends- little things.

Sunshine on My Shoulders

I sleep with my curtains open so this morning when I woke up, I was thrilled to see that the sun was shining. That may not seem like something big, but when you’ve been living with the grey days that we’ve been living with lately- trust me, it’s a huge thing.

I took JJ out for a long walk, basking in every single moment of the sunshine and even thought for a moment that I may need a Sun Hat if I’d spent much more time outside. The skies were blue- there wasn’t a cloud in the sky and I have to say that it was a perfect day.

Pasty White

Filed under: In the Neighborhood,Life,Seasons — gardener @ 9:57 am

Marcel and I stopped at the gas station yesterday for a fill up when a girl passed by on a bike. She was pale, but then so am I. What surprised me was that Marcel said that she could use some indoor tanning lotions or something because she was so pale. I laughed, and looked at him and said, ‘Well what about me?’ His response was that my face wasn’t pale because I’d gotten some sun on it last week. I just shook my head. I wonder what he thought before last week? Men- you just gotta love em.

Eat, Pray, Love

I haven’t read the book Eat, Pray, Love but ever since I saw Julia Roberts on Oprah talking about her experience in taping the movie, I’ve wanted to see it.   In fact, I’ve wanted to read the book, but it is one of those that I haven’t bought yet and now that I’m going to see the movie, I may not end up buying it after all.   I’m weird in that sense.  Usually if I read the book, I may not see the movie.   If I watch the movie, I never seem to read the book afterwards. I’m not sure why that is.

Tomorrow night Desere and I are going to the movies to see Eat, Pray, Love and I’ll be sure to let y’all know what I think.  I’ve heard mixed reviews on it, but since I know what to expect going in, I can’t imagine it being a bad movie.   After all- it does contain eating, praying and loving-   How could anything with all that goodness be bad?

Keeping Positive

One of my friends was laid off from the company she worked for earlier this year, and because she lives in a pretty remote area, she’s been unable to find any local jobs. She commuted about an hour each way for her last job and she was ready to do the same thing again. She was turned down for a job that would have required she travel 1 1/2 hours each way daily, plus they felt she was over-qualified. I told her I was sure that something would come along- and wouldn’t you know that yesterday she got a call and was hired not a half hour from her home. She starts next week. I hope this job is everything she’s ever wanted and then some. I’m VERY excited for her and can’t wait to hear all about her first day. She kept a positive attitude the entire time she was job hunting and I’m sure that contributed to her finding exactly what she was looking for.

Favorite Places

This is one of my favorite places in the world-  The beach.   I took this with my phone this past Sunday when we were at the beach with friends.   The weather was perfect, and I could have stayed there all day.
