The Price of Beauty

Filed under: In the Neighborhood,Shop til ya Drop,Things I Love — gardener @ 11:27 am

Earlier this week I spent some time laying (yes laying) in the middle of the tulips. While at the time it seemed like a great idea, I can’t say that after the fact that it was really one of my most brilliant moves because I’ve been having major allergy issues ever since. I think if someone used a Symbol LS2208 to scan my head, they’d find that there were little masses of pollen swimming around irritating my sinus cavities and driving me bonkers.

If I had it to do over again would I do it? Absolutely- after all, beauty sometimes comes with a price, but this one was worth it.

Learned About the Home Buying Tax Credit

I don’t know about y’all, but I’ve really found myself interested lately in learning about trying to find the best ways to get the most deductions when I file my taxes. I’ll admit that in the past I really haven’t thought much about it. Things have been pretty much straight forward, but so much has changed that I wanted to check into things and see what I could find.

Upon doing a little research, I found a great video about a home buying tax credit, which could benefit many of us. The video talked about a credit that had been extended into April 30th of this year. Basically, if you haven’t owned a home in the past three years, and you have bought or are in the process of buying a home and have a signed contract by April 30th of this year (with closing being done by the end of May), you are entitled to a new home tax credit of around $8,000. With all the struggles in the economy these days, that’s a tax break that many of us could use, but one that some of us may not even be aware of. I know I wasn’t.

Luckily, not only did I learn something that can possibly benefit us, but it can also possibly benefit y’all as well. It could also be a deciding factor for those of you who have been thinking about buying a home but weren’t sure. Now would definitely be the time so you can still get the tax credit.

Tomorrow at a Glance

Filed under: In the Neighborhood,Life — gardener @ 12:31 pm

Tomorrow is Bible Study and JJ’s first time to be left alone for a long period of time while no one is home. I hope he’ll be ok without any accidents in his crate. I guess if he has one, I’ll have to deal with it when I get home. Tomorrow is my day to bring the snack and I’m taking some apple cake, chocolates and freshly peeled mandarin oranges. I took the same thing last time. Everyone seemed to enjoy it, and I didn’t actually feel much like baking something myself, so I figured, why not?

I wanted to spend some time on the elliptical today, but I ran out of time before I could. Maybe tomorrow in between work and dinner.

I hope the weather will be kind to me in the morning. This morning I woke up with snow. I couldn’t believe it.

One of Those Days

Filed under: In the Neighborhood,Life — gardener @ 6:41 am

Ever have one of those days when it seems like if something can go wrong, it will? I guess I’m having one of those since it seems like everything is going wrong today. I almost fell when I was outside with JJ, (luckily I didn’t) and about 20 minutes after I changed his bedding this morning, he decided he wanted to have a potty break on his clean blankets. He hasn’t done this in ages, and it had to happen then. I was frustrated to say the least.

I did notice when I was out walking with him a little earlier that there are some new steel buildings being built not too far from here. I didn’t see any signs, so I’m not sure what they’re going to be used for and of course I’m curious.

At least the sun is shining and streaming through the windows making everything toasty warm. I even turned out the heater. I’m basking in the glow as I type this, and soaking up every little bit of Vitamin D I can get.

Strange but True Happenings

I’m going to tell y’all a little something weird that has been happening to me. Ok, technically the situation itself isn’t that weird, but my discoveries are a little on the odd side if you ask me. Then again, some people would say that I’m odd, so I guess it would be appropriate.

About a month ago, I noticed that my lower legs (below my knees) started itching quite a bit. I thought at first that it was eczema, and I started using some cream that my doctor gave me last year for the same thing. I’ve had this two or three other times and it’s always in the same place. I generally start with using lotion to see if that helps, and if it doesn’t I move to this cream, which generally helps. This time, it didn’t help. I noticed though, that it only itched during the night, but for the life of me, I couldn’t figure out why.

Now I know this is going to sound crazy, but I think it’s my PJ’s. I have flannel ones that I’ve been wearing, and some others that are really big and fluffy. I have several pairs of each because they are so soft and cozy, not to mention warm. I finally resorted to using Caladryl and last night I slept in my thermal pants. I didn’t itch. Now, could it be the Caladryl that helped, or is it my pjs? I really don’t want to be allergic to my pjs, but it does seem suspicious.

Icy Roads

Filed under: In the Neighborhood,Life — gardener @ 1:45 am

I can’t believe that yet another few days have passed since I last wrote in here. Things have been slightly busy, and in the evenings when all is quiet, rather than spend time on the computer, I’ve been watching movies, and some of the new shows that I’ve just discovered and fallen in love with.

Yesterday I spent half of the day walking, shopping and lunching with Desere, and afterwards I spent some time on a little photo safari looking for winter pictures. I didn’t have to look far with the weather being what it is. One thing is for sure, with all the cars I see slipping and sliding all over the road, finding the cheapest car insurance should be a necessity. Having something is definitely better than having no coverage at all.

Marcel and I ended up in a couple places yesterday where the roads weren’t cleared and where the road wasn’t wide enough for two cars. One of those moments happened to be on a hill, and we met three cars in a row. Needless to say, I was a nervous wreck by the time we got out of there. Thankfully we didn’t slide off the embankment and into the canal and made it home safely.

Today and tomorrow I’m not working, so I’m planning on catching up with a few things around the house and possibly writing a few letters.

Sunshine and Coffee

I woke up this morning to sunshine and if I have anything to say about it, I plan to get out and enjoy some of it as soon as I get my work done. In fact, since Marcel is off today, maybe I can talk him into walking with me into town (provided the ice is off the sidewalks and it isn’t slippery anymore) and having a coffee at my favorite cafe.. I’d love to have a chococcino (chocolate cappuccino) but I’m trying to detox from the sugar. AND with that being said, I must confess that I did have some fudge last night in a moment of weakness. I’m not beating myself up, but determined to be more conscious and I WILL make it the 21 days without sugar.

But since I’m not supposed to be having sugar, that means that I’d need to have plain coffee, since the chococcino has chocolate in it. I love the cafe though. I think I’ve shared pictures before, and I noticed the other day when I went in to their little girls room that they had new hand dryers that I thought were very cool. You stick your hand slowly inside this little thing, and this really high speed air blows out and dries your hands instantly. I’ll admit, that I played with it even once my hands were dry because I thought it was fun. I know.. it really is the little things that amuse me.

Am I Seeing Things?

Filed under: In the Neighborhood — gardener @ 2:35 am

I see sunshine- and blue skies- and NO rain! I almost feel like I’m hallucinating. I could use this weather for the rest of the month-

More from me a little later, but I’m sooo grateful for this sunshine that I had to share.

Not So Sweet Deal

Filed under: In the Neighborhood,Life — gardener @ 1:04 pm

In an effort to become ‘happier’ I bought myself some 72% pure chocolate today. I haven’t had any of it yet, but I did share some chocolate truffle pie with Marcel at a local cafe today. It wasn’t as sweet as it may have been had he not just received a ticket for 100.00 for parking without using the parking tag that we were supposed to put in our window. He thought about it 10 minutes after we’d parked, but because it was so busy in our town, the parking police were obviously out in droves and gave him a ticket. Now all we can do is pray that the ticket disappears and that we never receive it in the mail. One can hope, right?
