Through The Tulips Words of 'Wiz'dom

Inspiring Words

Filed under: Quotes- Soul Food — gardener @ 8:18 am

Most people know that when I spend ‘quality’ time with the elliptical each day, that I do it while watching episodes of The Biggest Loser.   It’s a source of inspiration for me, and it pushes me when I start feeling like ‘I can’t’ , because I know that indeed, “I can“!

The only time that I watch the show is when I’m working out, and because I love the show so much, it stimulates me to work out.

Today, I heard trainer Jillian Michaels say something that resonated within me.   It brought tears to my eyes, and when my work out was finished, those words were still with me.

I am a HUGE fan of quotations, and this is one for the quotation book where I list all of my favorites.  It’s a little blue moleskin book, and I love it.   I also have a brown one, but I haven’t found a use for it yet.  I will though.

I am in the process of adding positive words and quotes to a board here on my computer desk, and I’ll be printing these and adding them first.  They are words I never want to forget, but because I’m human, will need to be reminded of from time to time.

I hope they they serve to inspire and drive you, the same way they have me.   Thank you Jillian!

You can tell me that you choose not to;

You can tell me that you choose to quit;

That you choose to be less than what you are, and less than what God intended you to be;

But don’t ever tell me that you can’t do it.

  2. I like motivational quotes too, and I like watching The Biggest Loser sometimes too. I like watching it while working out, like you, but I don’t know when it is on anymore, or on what channel. (!)

    The only thing I have to say about what Jillian said is that while it sounds good from a coaching point of view, and makes for good television, and is most likely true for the vast majority of people, there are probably a few exceptions to the rule who could be harmed (injury, etc.) by forcing themselves to do something that they really ought not to do. And though Jillian probably knew that it was NOT inappropriate to make that kind of remark to her group, or the individual it was directed at (because they are medically supervised), that kind of statement could potentially lead to harm for some other people because they are pressured by others who misinterpret their abilities/capabilities, even with their best interests at heart, or by people who might have watched the program and felt like they should be able to do things because of what they have seen on the show, and they feel guilty because of what Jillian said. But all of the people on TBL are medically supervised, and that is the difference.

    Sorry, didn’t mean to write a book, and I wasn’t trying to be all negative in relation to the quote. I do get it that the essence of the quote and the takeaway message from it has to do with the impact our choices (and the associated consequences of those choices) have on our lives. Ultimately, the quality of our choices will impact the quality of our lives, and if we choose to give up or stop just short of success in whatever we desire to pursue, we have chosen to fail.

  3. Amen Dutchie- That grandson of yours is right on!

    Hey Charmie 🙂 It’s so great to see you here. As you know, I always love your input, and you are right, I definitely can see where it could have a negative impact on making someone feel forced to do something that they maybe medically couldn’t do, and in that case I would definitely not advise anyone to give in to that, because to me, medical reasons is something entirely different.

    That definitely wasn’t the case when she was talking to this girl. The girl was crying (it’s last season) and she’s working through alot of emotional baggage that has had her wanting to quit in many different times in the game, so that’s where the words came from.

    On a personal level, it spoke volumes to me, not just with working out, but with life in general.

    I’m not sure when it comes on. I think Tuesday’s on NBC, I download it and watch that way.

    *hugs* Y’all.
