Purple Splendor

Is it just me, or has this weekend flown past? It seems like I blinked my eyes and we went from Friday to Sunday. Do not pass go- Do not collect $200.00.

Maybe Saturday sort of faded off into Sunday, because I spent most of the day cleaning yesterday. It wasn’t exactly how I wanted to spend my Saturday, but truth is, I’d been ‘playing’ so much the past week, that several things in house had been left unattended, and I knew they needed to be taken care of. I did get almost everything done that I’d hoped to get done, and that left me today to spend time with Desere and the boys when they came for a visit, only I still need to get in the bath, plus do this weeks Bible Study, and somewhere in between I need to have dinner.

Marcel went to his moms for Sunday dinner, but he was suppose to be working (but took the day off so he could watch the soccer match), so I decided to stay home and play catch-up. The week is shaping up to be a busy one, but there is much rain in the forecast, which could hinder some of my plans. I’m happy with it either way, because I have a stack of things I can do around here.

I’ve also been wanting to create some new jewelry, something I haven’t had much time for lately. I have several new ideas, so I need to see how they come together, before I forget what ideas it was that I had in the first place.

As much as I’d like to stay and ramble, I really should get my Bible Study done, and get something to eat. I feel like I haven’t eaten all day, although nothing could be further from the truth.

My Gratitude List for April 26, 2009.

Today I’m Grateful For:

  • An afternoon spent with Desere and the boys.
  • Unexpected gifts.
  • Spicy tomato soup.
  • Pushing through my work-out, when I really wanted to stop.
  • Rain.

More from the Tulip Fields

Filed under: Seasons — gardener @ 11:15 am

In spite of being busy most of the day playing catch-up on domestic duties, I did manage to get a few more photos together from our adventures in the tulip fields earlier this past week.

It has been a busy, but productive day, and I’ve managed to check everything off my ‘to do around the house’ list.   I also haven’t left the house today- not even to go out and check the mail.  It has been wonderful.

Tomorrow, the weatherman is calling for rain, and upon looking at the weather forcast for the coming week, I see nothing but rainy skies-  that could change, and while I”m not thrilled about a week of rain, I know we could use some of that liquid sunshine.

How are you spending your weekend?

My dinner is almost ready, so I’m off-    Have a great day!

Peace, Love, and Marriage

Filed under: Uncategorized — gardener @ 8:47 am

Yesterday when Anna & I were headed towards the train station, where we would part ways and head to our prospectove homes, we passed the old City Hall, which apparently has become “the” place to wed on Fridays.

In front of the building was a parade of parked cars, and leading the pack was a Mercedes bus that appeared to have stepped right out of the 60’s.

As we stood there admiring the colorful bus, we noticed the doors to city hall open, so we decided to wait and see if we could get a glimpse of the happy couple.

Anna and I joked about whether they would be dressed in 60’s garb, and whether it was a “themed” wedding, or if the happy couple were actually misplaced “flower children”.

It wasn’t long before we had the opportunity to see for ourselves that they were the real deal.

They drew quite a crowd, and being the romantic that I am, I really enjoyed sharing in this piece of their history, even if they were oblivious to me and the other onlookers.

Mr. & Mrs. Whomever-you-are, I wish you a long, happy life together, with much peace and lots of love.

As Promised

I finally had a chance to go through a few of the photos from our trip to the tulip fields earlier this week.  I’ll share a few now, and since I took about 150 that day, I can easily say I have more to share, including some macro shots of other floral subjects, that I’ll share at a later time.

Right now, I’m rushing around getting ready for dinner, and then we’re heading off a lilttle later to meet up with Hein and Desere at Aloha.  The weather couldn’t be more perfect, and I’m looking forward to spending some time watching the sun go down and relaxing.

How do you plan to spend your weekend???

I know.. I know.. I promsed to share photos of yesterdays tulip adventures, but it looks as though another day has passed and left me with not a whole lot of time to spend online.   I did actually get the photos uploaded from the memory card, and hopefully tomorrow I’ll have a chance to share more of them, but because I didn’t want to lie, I will share one- which happens to be my yearly photo quest when I visit the tulips-  to find one color that was mistakenly placed with the others, before the tulip farmers find it, and kill it with ‘Round Up’.   This year, it was a field of pink, with a lone yellow, both of which happen to be two of my favorite tulip colors.

Something I always love, is that the odd colored tulip- is almost always taller than the rest, as though they are in the spotlight shining at the world.  It makes me smile for some reason.

I hope you enjoy!

Today I’m Grateful for:

  • Taking the ‘just do it’ attitude with today’s bike ride.
  • Being able to sleep late after getting Marcel off to work.
  • Tostadas with roasted chicken breast and mashed pinto beans.
  • People who stop me on the street and ask about my weight loss.
  • Being back on track.

Tiptoeee Through the Tulipssss With Me….

Filed under: Gratitude — gardener @ 2:36 pm

Every single year when ‘tulip time’ rolls around, that song pops into my head.  I sing it again and again and again, but lucky for you, you can’t hear me.   Marcel, on the other hand, has been ‘blessed’  with that lovely sound from time to time.

I sound worse than Tiny Tim, if such a thing was possible.  Tis true- so be happy that in this virtual world, you can’t actually hear me when I appear to be singing.

I did walk through the tulips today, as I do each and every spring.   Last year I actually ‘laid’ in the tulips, and some of you may remember the  ‘upside down’ photos that I took while laying there.   I haven’t done that this year- yet.    Anything is possible.

I did take several hundred photos today, but I haven’t taken the memory card out of my camera yet, but have it on my ‘to do’  list for in the morning.   Since we’ve been gone alot, my ‘to do’ list is actually getting long, so I’ll be playing  ‘catch up’ tomorrow.

Right now, I need sleep.  I need to be up at 4:45 to get Marcel off to work, and you can be sure, I will NOT stay up at that time.   I could, but I’m not.   This girl needs her beauty sleep.

Expect photos tomorrow, and a little story on littlesouthofsanity about something I did today that I STILL can’t believe I did- and in broad daylight.    More on that tomorrow.

My Gratitude List for April 22, 2009.

Today I’m Grateful For:

  • The wind that made our 6.5 mile bike ride a bit more of a work out, although I didn’t find it so fun at the time.
  • The picture perfect weather we’ve been having.
  • Marcel, for driving me to the tulips today- I know sitting there observing while I roll around on the ground with the tulips is not his idea of fun.
  • Cool evenings with the doors open.
  • Miles and miles of colorful tulips- one of my favorite flowers.

A HUGE Thank YOU!

Filed under: Gratitude — gardener @ 11:57 am

I only have a few moments, so todays entry is going to be a short one, but I wanted to make sure that I wrote a very special “THANK YOU” to my  dear friend Judy, who sent me a package filled with Steel-Cut Oats and the most beautiful notecard that she’d written a personal note in.

I’d mentioned a while back about being out of the oats, plus not being able to find them here, and Judy went out a few days later and picked up two boxes for me and send them my way.  They arrived today, and I can’t wait to cook some in the morning!  I was tempted to make some tonight, but I’ll wait!

Thank you SO much Judy for your thoughtfulness and your friendship.  You are the best!  Love you!!

My Gratitude List for April 21, 2009.

Today I’m Grateful For:

  • The wonderful  package I received from Judy, with the beautiful card and Steel-Cut Oats.  YUM!!
  • Taking a 35 minute bike ride and it not hurting my knee, AND not having any collisions with vehicles.
  • Marcel washing AND drying the dishes tonight (without me asking), while I groomed Mister M.
  • A beautiful bouquet of white roses from my Mom-in-Law.
  • Encouragement and Motivation

Essence of Spring

Filed under: In the Neighborhood,Seasons — gardener @ 10:45 am

What a difference a few days can make.

If you had asked me a year ago if the way I feel would hinge upon whether or not I was able to get my work out in for the day, I would have laughed.   A year ago I was still struggling through each and every work out that I had, and today, I actually look forward to them.

That’s something I bet you never thought you’d hear me say.   Don’t worry, I never thought I’d be saying it either, but it’s true- and I’m happy that it’s true.

Some of you know that I had been struggling with several losses and other situations with people that I care about.  It wasn’t anything that happened to ‘me’ per-say, but it is hurting and affecting those I love, and in turn that affects me.  There have been a million times when I’ve wished that I wasn’t so emotional,  so empathetic, but obviously God made me this way, and he doesn’t make junk, so I’ll just be grateful and accept it as a blessing, although there have been times that I’ve wondered.  Last week was one of those weeks.

Last week was also the week of my monthly visitor, which, if you are a woman reading this, you know that it tends to compound anything remotely emotional or hormonal-  couple that with the fact that I wasn’t able to work out due to cramps, and I was feeling pretty low.

I’ve been able to give several things their place, and yesterday I stepped back on the elliptical, and started my work outs again.  Yeahh!  What a difference that made.  It is a well known fact that workouts are good for stress, etc.  – but now I know it to be without a doubt, 100% true.

My favorite guy (that would be Marcel), and I decided to take a little walk through part of the neighborhood today, so I could see about ‘capturing’ a little of the essence of spring.  It was a quick trip, since my knee started giving me issues again (something that it oddly doesn’t do when I’m on the elliptical -thank Goodness) , but I spotted some ducks on nests that I want to go back and photograph.  Since the weather is suppose to be gorgeous tomorrow, I’m going to attempt to do it then, after Bible Study and grocery shopping.

In the meantime, a little taste of this afternoons walk.

On Being True to Self

Filed under: Uncategorized — gardener @ 1:56 pm

I realized today that something is amiss with me these days. What, exactly, I haven’t been able to put my finger on, but I’m trying.

I would suspect that it’s a combination of a plethoria of ‘little things’, which have been sitting, unprocessed in this grey matter of mine, and have snowballed into something larger than it should be.

That alone should be enough- but instead, I’ve found myself falling prey to some pretty negative and destructive activities the last few days. Don’t worry, by destructive, I don’t mean I’m off drinking, doing drugs, participating in lewd sexual behaviour  or anything like that- but I’ve found myself being pretty negative, and by allowing the negativity to take root, it’s created other problems- or shall I say- I’ve allowed it to manifest in other areas.

I recognize this; which is the first step to working through it and correcting the problem. Now, I have to understand the ‘whys’ and go from there, plus take steps to prevent this from happening in the future.

We all have speedbumps, but it’s how we react to them that make the difference, and my reaction has been far from stellar. I’m only human, so flawed- but I have to be true to me, and get myself back on track- and I will do just that.

How? I’m not sure, but I will get there. You can bet on that- I won’t stay down for long. I’m not only determined, but extremely stubborn. I think I get that equally honest from both parents, whom I adore.

Even though I’m not feeling very ‘grateful’ at the moment, I know the importance of finding the little things in every day life to be grateful for. Even though I may not ‘feel’ grateful, I am.

My Gratitude List for April 18, 2009.
Today I’m Grateful For:

  • A quiet evening home alone.
  • Silence-
  • Recognizing when things are amiss, and working to sort through.
  • Cherry blossoms.
  • Chococcino (Chocolate cappuccino)

I really love that I can be any and everywhere, and jot out a few words here and there, or even share a picture if I have the urge.

I’m across the street in this photo. Well, you can’t actually see me, but you can see spring in all it’s glory. Isn’t it gorgeous?
