I Knew Better than to Get Out

I saw the sun today for about a half an hour, but even though there was a little sun, I still didn’t feel like doing much, so I haven’t. I debated back and forth whether to go to the doc today, but decided finally to wait and see how I feel in the morning.

Instead, I decided that I would get out and quickly do some grocery shopping, since having the ls2208 at one of the stores makes it easier to shop. Unfortunately, it started snowing when I walked out the door and the wind picked up, making it for a unpleasant experience for someone who is already feeling bad.

The rest of the day has been spent doing nothing, and unless I have a miracle healing tonight, I’ll be going to the doctor tomorrow. What a great way to spend my 6 year anniversary.

Can You Do This For Me?

Filed under: Techy — gardener @ 11:40 am

In the midst of all the busyness around here, Marcel has been having a few issues with his computer and wants me to do an online backup so that I can wipe his computer and reinstall everything. Granted, I don’t currently have time to do all the reinstalling, but I can at least do the back up and get things ready.

Tonight, I’m going to finish the Christmas candy I’m making, and then from there, I’m going to attempt a few Christmas cards. There won’t be as many as previous years. I’m running far too late for that this year. I’m sure no one will notice.

From the Guest Bedroom

Today I decided that I wanted to work from the comforts of the guest bedroom, so I grabbed my new laptop and headed off with Mister M. to this little space. It is cozy, the sun wasn’t glaring in my eyes, and because I keep the window cracked in here, it is cool. At some point during the day, Marcel came in and brought me coffee and commented that I haven’t turned my desktop computers on in a while. He’s right. I have been enjoying not having to sit at the desk, although I’m sure before the week is over I’ll spend some time there, after all, that IS where all my major files and information lie.

Updates Everywhere

I’ve been crazy busy all day so I haven’t had much of a chance to do the 30 Days to Greater Happiness, which means that y’all will get two tomorrow. I’ve been trying to play catch up, plus I had Bible Study today. I also tried to updated our navigation system only for it to tell me that we didn’t have enough space to update the newest map, which means I’ve got to order a micro sd card to allow extra space for maps. It will make things much, much easier.

More from me tomorrow, including the 30 days to greater happiness for today and tomorrow.

Chow for now!

In Control- Somewhat.

Today I find myself feeling slightly better than I have the past few days.  I can’t even begin to express how grateful I am for that.   I find when I start feeling overwhelmed and a little out of sorts that I tend to retreat into a little ‘rabbit’  hole and try to avoid much more then basic convesations with people.   It makes it easier to not say things when I get annoyed, plus it gives me the opportunity to think and reflect on why I’m feeling the way I do.

I appreciate y’all who have commented and who have reached out to check on me.  It means a great deal.  I do believe that part of it is an adjustment period for everything that is going on in my life.   I know that once JJ is house trained, that things will be a little easier.    I do believe that giving in to doing what needs to be done as opposed to fighting it because I’m missing this, that and the other that needs to be done has helped.

I do have some anxiety associated with not getting my work done on time, and because work depends on me being able to concentrate, I can get overwhelmed.  That’s why I’m typing this right now as opposed to working.   I needed a little break.

The great thing is, Marcel is off for the next few days, which affords me to sleep late, eat breakfast and begin work much earlier.  For that I’m very grateful.

Someone mentioned yesterday that I like to be in control of things, and I never really thought much about that until it was mentioned to me.  It wasn’t mentioned in a negative tone, although the first thing I thought of was a certain person who remains nameless, who is attempting to make the lives of some  of those I love the most miserable with her need to be in complete control at all times of any and everyone in her environment.  That’s a story for another time, or maybe not at all- we’ll have to see about that one.

Anyway-  I started thinking about it, and this person was right-  I really do like to be in control of things, or at least things that are concerned with my own life.   I like to have my ducks in a row, and I like things to flow a certain way- and when they don’t, I struggle with it.

Maybe we are all this way a little.  Maybe that’s why when Marcel suggested that I look into refurbished laptops as opposed to buying a new one, I said no. Ok, well maybe that’s overdoing it a little. I know they are probably great, but I had in mind something in particular that I wanted, and when I didn’t get the Mac, I at least wanted the other.

What about you? Do you think you like to be in control?

Knowledge is Power

Those of you who have known me any amount of time know how much I love to learn, and one of my absolute favorite things about todays technology is that attending university has broadened the horizons of what attending school really is. Rather than sitting in a actual classroom at specific times, online universties are allowing students to complete their degrees in virtual classrooms, from the comfort of their own homes.

My friend Michelle and I were recently having a conversation about education. She had been considering her Masters at an organizational development university which offers her the benefits of fitting classes into her already busy schedule, allowing her to complete her Masters degree much faster than she would if attending a traditional university.

She’d been considering her Masters in Organizational development at Gonzaga University, and the site has proven invaluable with information regarding her chosen path, and feel that she would have more long term career options if she’d instead persue her Masters in Organizational Leadership. She appreciates the challenge that this online university brings, plus the diverseness of the students in the virtual classrooms which offer many different perspectives to the mix, and thinks it would be the best option for her educational persuits. After looking at the site myself, I can see she’s right, and finds me with the desire to once again go back to university and learn.

Since Then….

Filed under: Techy — gardener @ 10:13 am

Last time I was here, I was off to put on my nerd cap and see if I could manage to fix a laptop issue on a computer that Marcel’s neices own. Unfortunately, there is a file either missing, damaged or infected and a crucial file to allow Windows to start.

In the beginning, they didn’t want to lose everything and I definitely don’t blame them, but then they decided they’d deal with it (there wasn’ THAT much on there), and that I could wipe it, but after thinking about it, I refused to do it.

I know they weren’t thrilled about it, because that’s going to mean either finding someone who can do it that they know, or paying someone, but not long after they received the laptop from their grandma (my mom-in-law), I had gone over and set up the printer. Some way or another, other installations of the printer got added, and the default printer setting was changed, causing it not to print. There was something-or-other going on at the time, and I wasn’t able to make it over there when they wanted me to, so they had some friend of a friend look at it (and you know how those things go sometime), and rather than going in, deleting the excess installs and changing the default, he decided that rather than Vista, that the computer needed XP, so he installed XP on the brand new computer, voiding the warranty and everything.

In my eyes, that was about the dumbest thing ever- especially since the problem wasn’t Vista related, but to each his own. I am not going to attempt to repair it now that there has been a conflict or problem when I have NO idea what else this guy did to the computer.

Tomorrow, Marcel will call someone we know who owns a computer shop, and see what he’ll charge to repair it. It isn’t going to be cheap, but I’m not doing it. Maybe they can call the guy who changed the operating system in the first place and let him do it. Lord help them though if they do.

Putting on My Hat

Filed under: Techy — gardener @ 11:51 am

Looks like I’m going to put on my computer nerd hat and head off to the living room. I had plans to write something more here today, but Marcel’s niece popped in with their laptop that won’t start. They had tried to install a camera driver the other day, and the computer asked to reboot and when it attempted, it wouldn’t start Windows.. Of course, they are horrified that they’ve lost all their photos and such, and I hope that isn’t the case. I’m going to do what I can, but I’m no miracle worker.

The one thing that annoys me.. is that when they got the laptop- a friend of their step-dads decided they shouldn’t have Windows Vista on the computer so they installed XP over the Vista. SO far there hadn’t been any problems, but I have a concern that this has created some sort of conflict with the software.. I guess I’ll try to see if I can get it to boot in safe mode and go from there..

Wish me luck!

Moi?

Filed under: Techy — gardener @ 10:55 am

I sometimes have to ask myself where people get the idea that I’m this all-knowing computer guru. Granted, I know a little, or maybe even more than a little, but I’m by far no guru. Geek maybe, guru not. Just as I saved the last entry, I saw an email from my dear brother asking me if I knew anyone who could help his friend Michael with software development on a program for a business the two of them are starting up together, or if I could even do some developing myself. Boy oh boy, he thinks his sister is far smarter than she is. 🙂

Looks like in addition to calling Jules, I’ll be calling bro as well.
