Thinking About It

I was lying in bed this morning before actually getting up, thinking of ways that I could rearrange my closet to fit the clothes (and shoes) that I bought while we were on vacation. Since the clothes are all stacked (neartly, I might add) in a moving box that we used as one of our checked pieces of luggage; I haven’t made much of an effort to move them because I know what is going to be required to get them in the closet.

While I was struggling with jet lag- I didn’t even consider attempting to reorganize my closet, but now that I’m pretty much over the jet lag and regaining some energy- I’ve actually started thinking of things I can do to make the transisition easy or at least less time consuming.

Tomorrow is our anniversary, so I doubt it will happen tomorrow (7 years of marital bliss) but I suspect within the next couple of days that my closet will take on a new look. I’m feeling inspired and this, my friends, is a good thing.

Jet Lagged

Last night I slept from 1:30-3:30 a.m. and when I woke up, I was wide awake. This was not exactly my idea of a good nights rest and I ended up staying awake for several hours before falling asleep again. Now, I’m sleepy. In fact, to the point of wanting to take a nap right now, even though I know what I should do is take a bath and move around so that I can try to fall asleep tonight at a decent hour. Will that happen? I’m not sure yet.

Marcel started back to work again today and I’m hoping that things will be much less stressful for him this year than they were last. He should be transferring sometime in the near future to another department within the company- a move that he’s really looking forward to, so I hope it works out exactly as he hopes.

I have a list of things ‘to do’ a mile long, and where generally I would be stressing because I’m not getting them done the way I’d like- I feel quite the opposite. I figure things will get done when they get done- after all, they aren’t going anywhere.

Now, I think it’s time for a cup of coffee or something that will hopefully serve a two-fold purpose: 1- Warm me up and 2- Give me a little energy boost.

Going Through The Motions

It has been several days since I posted, mostly because I’m still trying to get over the jet lag of our flight home. I’m thrilled to report that our flights were not only on time, but also the jet stream must have been in our favor because our flight times were actually much shorter than usual. I absolutely loved that.

Unfortunately the jet lag has me feeling tired and worn out. I keep hoping that my sleep patterns will regulate but I guess maybe I’m expecting too much since it’s only been two days. I know it will come, but right now I seem to be going through the motions and not much more.

Snowed In-

As most of you have probably seen on the news, the Deep South is ‘frozen’.   It isn’t too bad here on the Coast, but the Atlanta airport has actually closed because they have so much snow that they can’t get flights in and out.   Places like NYC and Chicago are prepared for this kind of weather-  us Southerners are not.      So when the snowy weather sets in- everything comes to a screeching halt.

Of course, wouldn’t you know- that the two packages that I’m expecting are also sitting in the not-t00-hotlanta.   I hope that they’ll get here before we leave.  Then again- maybe we’ll get snowed in and trapped here in the Deep South.

Vacation to Recover from the Vacation

Even though we still have 26 days left in our trip (longer than many people’s entire vacations), I can tell that people are noticing that we are on the downhill slope of the trip. They are trying to squeeze in get together’s and I’ve been thinking about how grateful I am that so many people want to spend time with us. I’m trying my best to see everyone, but I know at the end of the trip there will be those that I never were able to get a chance to see in spite of really wanting to.

I mentioned to someone a few days ago that when I get home, I’m going to need a week to rest after all the going and doing. I guess a vacation to recover from the vaction if you will.

Back and Playing Catch-Up

We are back on land and much as I suspected, we hit the ground running. The cruise and time with Desere on her 40th birthday was great, but now it’s time to really dig my heels in and start getting things ready for Christmas. I haven’t started on Christmas cards as of yet, nor do we have the Christmas tree up, but I know I’ll get it done.

I have a stack of mail to read that arrived while we were on the cruise, including a few coupons and some information on term life insurance quotes that I’d requested a while back. Today is catch up day- so we are doing laundry, catching up on bills and mail, plus straightening things up a bit in the house. I have much to say, but will break it up in more entries.

I’m glad to be back, but I sure miss the ship and the people.

Let the Fun Begin

Desere is in Atlanta waiting for her flight to Mobile (or I assume she is- since I haven’t talked to her) and I’ve been getting a few things done around here in anticipation of her arrival.

She’ll be here 10 days, but our time will be spent constantly on the go- so it’s safe to say that this definitely will not be a vacation of rest for her. In fact, it’s one of those trips where you’ll probably have to go home and get some rest to recover from the vacation that you just took.

Tomorrow we’re headed out to New Orleans. Friday, she and I plan to spend the entire day out shopping between the outlets and Malbis and then Saturday is our cruise. We get back on Thursday- and she leaves again on Friday. I’m looking forward to taking plenty of pictures and having many adventures to share- including our swim with the dolphins.

I miss reading blogs- but I just haven’t had the time. Maybe after she leaves and heads back home- I’ll have a little more time.

Packing and Getting Ready

We took an afternoon drive today to check out the docks and parking area where we need to go for the cruise next week. I’m getting really excited about it and I know my parents, Marcel and Desere are as well. It will be weird to be completely ‘technology free’ for five days, but in some ways I’m actually looking forward to it.

We’re hoping that the upstairs hot tubs don’t have spa covers on their tubs at night so that we an get in a little late night hot tubbing. Plus, Samantha filled me in on a great place on the ship to go for a little peace and solitude. I have a feeling I’ll be checking that place out daily.

Look out Mexico, here we come!

Could Use a Little Color

Filed under: Travel — gardener @ 8:57 am

I have a little over a week before we all head out into the deep blue waters for our cruise. That means I have even less than a week to start feeling better, since Desere will arrive on the 1st. I still haven’t decided about swimming on the ship- even though I’d originally planned to, I’m now concerned about getting my ear wet. I’m pretty pasty white at this point and some people would probably want to use the best indoor tanning lotion so they would at least have a little color on the ship, but I think I’ll pass and go for the glowing white look.

First Things First

Yesterday we had three things on the agenda for our first day home. The first was to get some shopping done for some food and other things that I needed. I usually don’t travel with shampoo, deodorant or anything like that and just pick it up when we get to our destination. Since those are necessities, that was at the top of our list.

Mom and diddy are also in the market for a new computer, so part of our time was spent between two stores looking at computers and trying to find the most for their money. The decision between laptop and desktop is also on the table and yet to be decided. (I think we’re making progress though.)

Another thing was that I needed to go to the cemetary to Carol’s grave. It was hard- really hard and I found that I just wanted to run out of the cemetary. I couldn’t seem to allow myself to cry freely- I’m not sure why. Instead, I walked away and went to the other part of the cemetary to visit my grand and great grandparents graves.

When I was done, I got back in the van and mom told me that last week my cousin died. She couldn’t bare to tell me yet another person had passed away this year. Jerry had been sick for many years and I’d planned to see him while I was home. I guess God had other plans. I can’t wrap my head around the loss that has happened this year. I’m going to work through it though, a little at a time.

I’m SO happy to be home.
