Strength Training

Since I started back on the elliptical, I’ve noticed a huge difference in the way I feel. I can tell, that in spite of the elliptical kicking my bootay in cardio, that I’ve started building some muscle mass again, and hopefully burning some extra fat in the process.

Next up will be adding strength training to my elliptical time. I have hand weights that I want to start implementing into my work out twice or three times a week, plus starting a kettle bell routine.

I’ve got a goal this year. Not just a weight-loss goal, but also a fitness and strength goal. They are realistic, and I plan to meet them all.

I’m happy to be taking those first steps in the right direction.

Female Woes

There are times when I think I’ve finally got this peri-menopause thing figured out, and wham! I get a surprise. Like the 8 day ‘early flow’ that started a few days ago. I didn’t see it coming, and didn’t know what hit me. Thankfully, a few days worth of laying low and lots of pain medication for cramps, and the worst of it was over.

Since I’d been erring on the side of late or not-at-all lately, this was a surprise. The culprit? I believe it’s because I started exercising again. I know what a huge difference cardio can make on many things, and obviously this was one of those things.

If all goes well, I should be back on the elliptical by the beginning of the weekend. Then next week, hopefully I’ll be able to get some walking in (if my heel spur cooperates) when we’re away for our anniversary.

Twenty-Fourteen – Sparkle and Shine

That’s my theme for this year – Sparkle and Shine! That’s exactly what I plan to do- sparkle, shine and focus entirely on living my best life. Stepping outside of my comfort zone- taking lessons where there are lessons, and running with them.

It’s a process- just like anything in life, but I’m kicking bootay and taking names- one thing at a time. My business is going well, but I’m working on how to make it even better.

My health- I am healthy, and my focus is to stay healthy- and doing that by getting back into a regular exercise routine- eating well and giving my body what it needs- be it enough sleep, or a heart-charging work out.

Marcel and I are doing so great- probably the best we’ve ever done. It seems that the struggles we’ve had with his health and a few other things last year have made us closer than ever.

Friendships- How can I even begin to express how joyous and grateful I am for each and every one of them. When I look at the big picture- I know just how blessed I am. I plan to continue to nuture my friendships- and I look forward to all the adventures and fun we have planned, and have yet to plan for this year.

Yes- Life is good- and sparkle and shine is happening!

Oh Christmas Tree

Today Marcel and I made great use of our afternoon and went out on the quest for the perfect Christmas tree. I don’t generally like using the word perfect for anything, because I think that there is too much focus on the word perfect, which creates sometimes unrealistic expecatations. I knew our quest would mean perfect for us, and within moments of beginning our Christmas tree search, we’d found just what we were looking for.

The bonus- was that the store we’d purchased our tree from, was offering a 20.00 gift card for anyone who purchased a real tree over the price of 24.95, for use in their store at a later date! SOLD! It was really busy there today. There were plenty of people looking for Christmas decorations and other gift items, but everyone seemed cheerful. I love that, and of course, it only made the shopping adventure more joyful!

So now our beautiful tree is sitting in a pail of water awaiting it’s decoration day. We are a little late with our tree this year, but some things are worth waiting for, and a Christmas tree is definitely one of those somethings. Not to mention, we were traveling last week.

Let the festivities begin!

Still Looking

Filed under: Home — gardener @ 9:47 am

Some of you know that Marcel and I have been in the market for a move for quite some time. We love the area we live in, but we’ve wanted to move to find something that better suits our needs for quite some time. The reason we haven’t done that yet? We haven’t found the right place. I have been checking real estate crm and we both look at the real estate in the newspapers, but we have both agreed that we aren’t interested in ‘settling’ for something that is OK. We’ve both agreed when we find ‘the one’ that we’ll know, and until then, we are both happy and content where we are.

I love that the market seems to be rebounding some, and I know that this coming year is going to be one of my best ever!

Dancing to the Music

It has been one of those check things off my ‘to do’ list kind of days. I’ve been home alone- had the music cranked up really hard and have been dancing and singing through the day. One of my favorite bands came on earlier and since they were being featured they played the entire new cd, which I loved. I haven’t heard all the songs- and the way they use the jody dv 8 tenor at wwbw in some of the songs really adds a depth to their music that I don’t recall in some of their previous albums. All great stuff.

Music is one of those things that can change my mood in an instant. Give me the right song and I’ll be dancing around the house in no time.

Building Fences

Filed under: Home,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 11:09 am

A few days ago I called mom and diddy for one of my sometimes many daily calls. I could tell that they were in the middle of something and come to find out, she was ordering t slots for the fence that diddy was building. It was ironic because she sounded relieved when she realized it was me, and she apparently was having some problems with how to complete the order process (she doesn’t order online much), so I was able to walk her through it- and diddy was happy because his t slots are on the way.

Even though I’m miles away- I love that they send me photos as they work on these projects.. The fence looks great so far, and I can’t wait to see it when it’s done. Somehow, those little snippits of their day makes them seem closer and makes me feel a part of things.

Gardening from the Inside Out

I’ve been thinking of my body and relationships like a garden lately.     I need to nurture and ‘water’ my body with the right foods and vitamins to make sure that it flourishes and stays healthy.     The same with my relationships-  I am invested in my friendships and want to nurture the relationships, water them and continue to see them flourish into beautiful gardens.  I see each friendship and each potential friendship as a beautiful flower-   and I know if I do my part in nurturing that flower- it will grow.    Granted- it’s always a two-sided thing, relationships- but I am responsible for me.

Today the sun is shining and the warmth on my shoulders feels good-   It’s giving my body the Vitamin D that it needs, something that so many of us get too little of- especially in the colder- cloudier winter months.     I’m resting and feeding my soul-   It’s a good thing- and my inner garden is beginning to bloom and it’s a great feeling.

Taking Care of Me

Now that the hustle and bustle of getting everything done after being gone for two months- Marcel has started back to work and I’m taking a little time to just think about myself and relax.

After lots of indulgence during our holiday- it’s also time to get back into a healthy eating pattern and regular exercise regime. I’m taking one thing at a time- but the getting back into the healthier eating started yesterday.. It’s going to be a process, but I’ll get there. I’m determined for this to be a year of stepping out of allowing any type of fear to control my life- so I can live an unlimited life. That’s going to open doors in every aspect of my life- and I’m excited about it.

In the meantime- I’m still focusing on the positive around me- and even though I’m on a little break from a lot of technical aspects of life- I’m trying to keep up with blogging and start spending more time within my own thoughts and putting them out there.

So today’s bits of gratitude are as follows:

  1. The joy that playing ball with JJ brings me.
  2. Marcel going to the grocery store for me today since I was struggling with a migraine.
  3. Having nothing pressing-which is allowing me to concentrate on my own rest and getting back into the swing of things.
  4. Real friendships.
  5. Warmer temps after a week of below freezing weather.

Home Again

I’m in the processes of getting over a little jeg lag- and back into the routine of things after a two month vacation, but we are home and settling back in after a fantastic trip with the family and friends. We made so many wonderful memories that I will carry with me for a lifetime and Marcel found himself really getting the itch to move. It’s still something we are considering, but right now- we are fulling living exactly where we are and not spending our time wishing our life away for something else. It doesn’t mean we aren’t or can’t make plans, but it isn’t going to hinder where we are now and fulling living here.

Right now- I have a little pup who is in serious need of a bath, but now that we’re back home and I’m getting settled I’ll be spending more time writing again. One of my goals this year is more structure in my blogging, so good things are coming!
