What’s Your Magic Headache Cure?

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately. I know, it’s a scary thing when I start doing so much thinking, but my mind seems to be constantly swirling with thoughts that I can’t seem to shut off on command. Oh how thrilled I would be if I could.

I had a horrible headache that developed yesterday afternoon, carried into last night and this morning. This morning it was a little less severe and then it went away. A half hour later it came back but at least it wasn’t as bad as last night. Now, I’m happy to report it is gone again an I’ve been headache-free for quite some time now.

A few people gave me some interesting ideas on how to get rid of a migraine, and I was wondering if any of you had any off the wall ideas that tend to work for you? Personally, I took some Tylenol with Codeine and that didn’t do the trick, but it did help with the cramps.

So you tell me- What’s your ‘magic’ headache cure?

Soccer Sunday

I guess I should call this Soccer Sunday, because Marcel and Tom (Desere’s son) are watching what they are calling ‘the’ soccer match of the season. I’m not sure that I would agree with them, but I’ve been hearing a whole lot of screams coming from the living room, which assures me that their team is doing well.

In fact, as I’m typing this, Marcel slowly pushed the door open and held up two fingers. That means that his team has two points and the other team has none. Obviously this is a good thing. I don’t think I’ve ever known a person who loves soccer the way Marcel does. He loves soccer the way my diddy loves football and the way my brother loves baseball or golf.

It’s the little things that make him happy, and even though they are loud in there, I can’t help but smile at the joy something so simple brings him. It’s something we can all learn from, gaining joy and pleasure from the little things.

Tax Time Again

It’s that time again- Tax Time. I’ve been putting off getting the taxes done for a few weeks now, and I finally decided that I may just try to do it myself for a change. I knew it would save close to $75 that I’d have to give the accountant, plus I figured if it was too hard, I could always let him do it. I ran a few things through the document scanning software, organized everything in order of how I thought I’d need it and I began. I had a pretty good idea of how our taxes should look, and my efforts were correct, I think. I send them in electronically, so if they aren’t correct, I’m sure I’ll hear something soon enough. In the meantime, I’ve been patting myself on the back for getting it done, and with time to spare.

Busy Day’s Keep the Mind From Wandering

Filed under: Life — gardener @ 3:05 pm

It has been a busy week this week. I’ve been trying to get back into the swing of things, and have been playing catch up with work since I missed three days last week. So far I’ve been able to exceed what I actually thought I’d accomplish, plus I’ve somehow managed to start working out again and it seems to be helping me deal with things.

I’m still finding it difficult to spend any longer periods of time alone, and the last two afternoons that Marcel has worked, I’ve been able to go see Alice in Wonderland with Bobbi (which I really enjoyed) and this evening made a last minute road trip to Starbucks with Desere. We did stop in at the “Bij” (My name for this particular store that I love) where I browsed the new Sabo collection for spring. When I told Marcel I’d found some new charms and a few new things, he said that it looks like someone better find another job. He obviously didn’t mean me. I didn’t buy anything for myself though, but it felt good to get out.

Tomorrow is Friday and I’m glad. I’m planning on spending some time this weekend cleaning, but other than that, I don’t have much planned. It’s going to be a relax weekend around here. I do think I’m going to attempt the taxes, but aside from that, not much. Oh, I’m going to attempt a new muffin recipe, but I’ll have to get back to y’all on how that turns out. It could be interesting.

Tomorrow at a Glance

Filed under: In the Neighborhood,Life — gardener @ 12:31 pm

Tomorrow is Bible Study and JJ’s first time to be left alone for a long period of time while no one is home. I hope he’ll be ok without any accidents in his crate. I guess if he has one, I’ll have to deal with it when I get home. Tomorrow is my day to bring the snack and I’m taking some apple cake, chocolates and freshly peeled mandarin oranges. I took the same thing last time. Everyone seemed to enjoy it, and I didn’t actually feel much like baking something myself, so I figured, why not?

I wanted to spend some time on the elliptical today, but I ran out of time before I could. Maybe tomorrow in between work and dinner.

I hope the weather will be kind to me in the morning. This morning I woke up with snow. I couldn’t believe it.

JJ and the Beach

Woke up this morning to find another day of sunshine and beautiful blue skies.   There is very little wind, and even though the temps are hovering around the freeze point, it’s gorgeous outside.   Marcel and I decided that it’s a good day to take JJ for his first trip to the beach and then after walking on the beach for a little while, then we’ll stop in at Aloha for a cup of coffee before heading home.   It will be interesting and fun to see how JJ does seeing the sand and the water for the first time.

It will be great to get out and keep my mind occupied.  In the meantime, before we head out, I am going to get my Bible Study lesson done so that I’ll have it ready for Tuesday.

Life is for living-  not for just sailing along always waiting for something better to happen.  Get out today and MAKE it happen.  It doesn’t mean that everything you want will happen the first time you want it to, but keep trying- What do you have to lose??

Spinning

Filed under: Life,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 12:47 pm

My mind is spinning with all that’s going on right now. Tonight is the wake (or visitation for anyone outside of the Deep South) and tomorrow morning the funeral for Carol. I’m having a difficult time thinking, eating and keeping my thoughts together, so I’m hoping that curling up in front of the HDTV with a comedy that can hopefully keep my mind off things for a little while. I’ve been feeling a rise in anxiety levels and that is not a good thing. I really need to try to keep focused as hard as it is. I need to try to laugh, even if it’s hard right now.

Creatures of Habit

Filed under: Life,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 11:31 am

Now that Marcel and I have started going through our insurance policies, he’s decided that maybe it’s a good idea rather than to just check up on our life insurance, to check up on all of our insurance online and see if we can get better policies with more coverage for less money.

I guess I’m just a creature of habit because I kind of like the old saying that we don’t need to fix what isn’t broken. It’s great to be informed of everything available and be educated on that, but I’m not ready to change. What we have works, and I’d prefer to leave it like that. Can I get an Amen?

Cleaning out the Closets

Marcel and I have been in this process of Spring cleaning since the weather hasn’t been good enough to do much of anything else. In that process, we’ve tossed a bunch of papers that we really have no use for anymore, making sure to shred them before we did. We also decided that it’s about time that we update our life insurance policy since it has been a while since we’ve done that.

Tomorrow, I’m going to tackle my closet… That should be fun.

All For a Reason

I was re-reading an article a little while ago that Martha Beck wrote that appeared in an “O” magazine back in 2008. The article is about time management and how that we often think that something is important just because it’s important to someone else. A particular quote from that article resonated with me when I read it for the first time in 2008, and yet I was reminded of that same quote when I read the article again today.

To live richly and avoid regret, we must give priority to things of real importance.

Now I know that each of us prioritize and compartmentalize things in different ways, so what may be important to me, may not even receive a second look from you. But what important is that we all realize that in order to make the most out of these beautiful lives we’ve been given, we need to really learn the difference in what really IS important and what may SEEM important but really isn’t.

The article goes on to say: Pay attention, and you’ll notice that even when you’re under “urgent” pressure to do something unimportant, it feels discordant and wrong. Do what really matters, and your life comes into harmonious alignment.. From there it gives information and tips on how you can prioritize your life and it works as long as you read the article, take notes and learn from it by applying the principals to your own life.

Even though I actually own the “O” magazine that this article was printed in, I actually received this article via email today from the “O” magazine mailing list. I hadn’t thought about that article in a while, nor had I practiced the principals, and believe me, my life shows it.

Do you think it was a coincidence that I received that article three days after recommitting myself to a work out routine and healthy eating and have been wondering how I’m going to find time to fit in work and exercise without having to get up at the crack of dawn? I can answer that one for you- Nothing is coincidence. There’s a reason for everything, and this was a reminder that I needed. I’m grateful that it came when it did.
