Beach Bum

Filed under: Shop til ya Drop,Techy — gardener @ 1:34 pm

Sometimes I forget that my laptop is so portable and that I can literally take it with me everywhere I go if I wanted to. After spending some time at Aloha today and really not wanting to leave- I decided that I may find out if they have an electric plug in so that I can work outside and then I can be at the beacn and working. I know they don’t have any office furniture accessories, but for an afternoon I can live without them. It’s definintely a thought. People do it at Starbucks, so why not at the beach?

Remodeling

Filed under: Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 12:14 am

Most of you who know me know that when Marcel and I bought our current home, we bought it so we could fix it up. At the time, we only knew a few things- that it was structurally sound, but otherwise a mess, and that it was going to take a LOT of work to get it up to par. We gutted the place, and contracted someone to lay the ceramic tiles, gut and redo the kitchen and also to set up a new kitchen. The rest, from the walls to the Grohe faucets, we decided to do ourselves. We really didn’t know what we were doing, and even though it took us four weeks to get it all finished, we did it, and for the most part, on our own. Marcel’s late brother Frank helped him lay the wood flooring in the bedrooms, but the rest was a ‘do it yourself’ project.

The past couple of years, we’ve been making small changes here and there, but we didn’t do much because we’d been looking at a house and thinking about selling this place. Unfortunately, while it is a great market to buy, it’s not a great market to sell, so we’ve decided to stay put for a while. I don’t mind, although I can’t help but think about changes I’d like to make and wonder if it’s worth making the investment. It’s definitely something to think about.

Sex in the City

Desere and I have plans to see Sex in the City- 2 tonight and I can’t wait. The theater is having a ladies night, and we were able to get tickets without having to stand in lines a mile long (thanks Claudia). There will be different vendors set up tonight, along with us receiving a goodie bag. One of my other friends said if there was information on wrinkle creams that really work to make sure and let her know. This resulted in an ‘eye roll’ from me, because wrinkles aren’t something she has to worry about.

I watched the first movie on Saturday with Desere and it will be good to see how things play out in part deaux. Does anyone else have plans to see it?

If Only

Filed under: Holidays,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 7:46 am

I’ve been trying to come up with something to get diddy for Father’s Day and for the life of me, I can’t decide what to get. He doesn’t really need anything, but I love him- he’s my diddy and I WANT to get him something. I think I’m going to browse through the circuit city website and see if I can come up with some ideas there. At least I’m getting an early enough start that I still have time to place an order.

What I would love most of all is to be there with him and cook dinner for him and mom. If only.

It’s All About the Comfort

I’ve been trying to gather a few things to take with us this weekend on our little get away and I pulled out my favorite comfy lounge pants and a shirt that is about four sizes too big for me, but also one of my most comfortable and favorites. I had everything stacked neatly on the bed, and Marcel commented that my choice of sleeping attire left something to be desired and commented that maybe I should be thinking about wearing corsets instead. I just gave him ‘the look’ and he said that he thought he might have to do a little shopping of his own. I didn’t comment and walked off to tend to dinner. And in case you’re wondering- I am taking my lounge pants and favorite shirt, and WILL be wearing them.

Funny Things

Filed under: Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 9:46 am

Today while I was out shopping and having lunch with to of my dear gal pals, we came across some pretty interesting and funny products. One of the ones that I thought was probably the most interesting was dental floss that tates like salad. Before you ask, yes, it’s green. I took a picture of it with my ‘eye’, and I’ll have to add it to this post later. I couldn’t help but laugh.

Dental floss that tastes like salad– seriously?

I Thought I Saw

A few days ago I was looking in the mirror and I thought I saw a wrinkle! Yes, yes, I know how terribly vain of me not to want wrinkles, but I figure at the young age of 42, I really shouldn’t be getting them, especially since I don’t spend much time out in the sunshine and I lead a pretty healthy lifestyle.

Upon closer inspection I guess you could say it was more of a forehead wrinkle that we all get, but I still couldn’t help thinking about wrinkle cream reviews and wondering if there are any out there that would be beneficial, provided I should need them in the near future. Mom is 20 years older than I without a wrinkle in sight, so I’m hoping that I’ll take after her and not need them for a long time to come. I’d like to be prepared though, just in case.

The Price of Beauty

Filed under: In the Neighborhood,Shop til ya Drop,Things I Love — gardener @ 11:27 am

Earlier this week I spent some time laying (yes laying) in the middle of the tulips. While at the time it seemed like a great idea, I can’t say that after the fact that it was really one of my most brilliant moves because I’ve been having major allergy issues ever since. I think if someone used a Symbol LS2208 to scan my head, they’d find that there were little masses of pollen swimming around irritating my sinus cavities and driving me bonkers.

If I had it to do over again would I do it? Absolutely- after all, beauty sometimes comes with a price, but this one was worth it.

On Women, Food and God (the Book)

It is no secret that I’ve been on a journey to a better, healthier lifestyle for the past year and a half, and the result of that journey so far has resulted in a weight loss of around 100 pounds. I still have a little way to go, but I can’t tell you how many people ask what ‘diet’ I’m on. I’m not-

I ordered the book On Women, Food and God after I read an excerpt on the Oprah website and I knew this was something I had to read for myself. I wasn’t expecting this book to be some magical key to weight loss, but what I was hoping for, was a different perspective to add to what I’ve learned during this process (which I imagine will be a learning experience from now on) and the book did not disappoint.

I haven’t read much lately and I admit to having a pretty huge pile of books in my ‘to read’ pile, but when I had this one in my hands, I wanted to read it immediately and soak up every little morsel of information. I’ll read it again and again, I’m sure.

The gift of the book helped teach me a few things about myself that I hadn’t thought of before, and that alone will help me along on this journey. I’m grateful I invested in myself buy purchasing the book. It was well worth the 25.00 price tag.

Read My Lips

Filed under: Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 9:43 am

Marcel was cleaning out the shed when he came across a huge trunk filled with books. They are books that I’ve read and I highly doubt that I’ll read them again, because the ones I refer to from time to time, I have stuffed in my night stand. Marcel suggested that maybe I sell used books and make a little cash, because right now they are collecting dust and taking up space in the shed. I guess he’s right, but something about me hates to part with them. At least this way someone else could enjoy them.
