Five Foods That Should Never Be in Your Shopping Cart

Most people who know me know that I’m a huge fan of Doctor Oz. I know that he’s been given the moniker America’s Doctor, and I love that he is committed and dedicated to teaching us all how to live healthier, longer lives.

I’m one of those odd people who love to go to the grocery store. I do. Maybe it’s because I love to shop, or maybe it’s because I like to cook. Possibly it may even be because I enjoy seeing what new products and things are on the market. I go down every single aisle each week, and feel as though I’ve missed something if I don’t.

I read this article about 5 things that should never find their way into our shopping cart and even though it was information that I already knew, I wanted to share it with others who may not know. You never know what a difference it could make in your life.

If you’d like to read the article, click the picture, which will take you to the website. It could save your life.

I Knew Better than to Get Out

I saw the sun today for about a half an hour, but even though there was a little sun, I still didn’t feel like doing much, so I haven’t. I debated back and forth whether to go to the doc today, but decided finally to wait and see how I feel in the morning.

Instead, I decided that I would get out and quickly do some grocery shopping, since having the ls2208 at one of the stores makes it easier to shop. Unfortunately, it started snowing when I walked out the door and the wind picked up, making it for a unpleasant experience for someone who is already feeling bad.

The rest of the day has been spent doing nothing, and unless I have a miracle healing tonight, I’ll be going to the doctor tomorrow. What a great way to spend my 6 year anniversary.

Let the Sun Shine In

With Marcel being sick and not wanting or feeling like getting out of the house, that has meant that unless I want to walk somewhere that my travels have come to a halt. I don’t mind, since the truth is, the weather hasn’t been very conducive to getting out and checking out any of the daily deals that can be found at some of our local stores. Now that the sun is shining though, I can’t help but be tempted to get out and see what I can find, but a whining doggie and a pot of soup that needs to be made await me instead.

I had some really fabulous soup at my friend Bobbi’s on Tuesday and I’m going to make it for Marcel and I tonight. It’s roasted bell pepper soup, and it’s some of the best soup I’ve ever eaten. I’ll share the recipe later. First, I’d better get outside with JJ before he has another accident.

Time Will Reveal All

This morning I struck up a conversation with Marcel about something that I have planned in the future for someone that I love dearly. I can’t really go into many details here, because I know they read this blog from time to time, and even though chances are they won’t put one and one together and get two, the chance exists that they might, so I can’t say much. I will say this- I’m planning a party, and if all goes according to the thoughts rambling around in this grey matter of mine, it’s going to be a big one.

I talked to Marcel about it and gave him a brief idea of what I’m thinking about, and told him that I’d do my best to keep things under a certain budget, including buying inexpensive wedding invitations. He’s all up for the idea, as long as he doesn’t have to do any planning. All I can say to that is, men! I have lots of ideas, that I need to start hammering out now if I’m ever going to be able to pull it off. I’m pretty positive I can, but It is going to take some careful planning, and also some help from the other side. That’s all I’m going to say for now- but expect to hear more in the future, even if it’s the not so near future. Curious? Time will reveal all.

Tisket A Tasket A Flower Basket

I was looking today at the roses that Marcel gave me a few days ago, and couldn’t help but be reminded that in less than a month we’ll be celebrating Valentine’s Day. February is usually an expensive month for us, since it also happens to be the month of our anniversary, and on February 2nd, we’ll be celebrating six years or matrimonial bliss. It’s also the month of my mother-in-laws birthday. Several years ago, Marcel and I spent Valentine’s Day with Hein and Desere. The four of us went to dinner, and although we don’t have plans for that as of yet, I do think it would be fun, so who knows?

One thing I’m sure of, is that my darling will more than likely give me flowers. What kind of flowers will be a mystery until that day, but he loves giving me flowers ‘just because’ but also on holidays. Occasionally, I even order flowers myself. I’ve found though, that over the years, that when I order flowers online that I look for coupon codes, such as Proflower code that will save either a percent off the total price of the order, or even a certain dollar amount off if you spend a certain amount. Either way you slice it, it means savings in your pocket, and who doesn’t want to save a little cash? Who knows, you may just have enough left over to buy a box of chocolates. I’m a huge fan of coupon codes and don’t buy anything online without first looking for the codes, including when I buy flowers.

Temptation

Filed under: Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 7:49 am

Does anyone else sign up for sale emails from some of their favorite websites? I think I’m pretty much signed up for every one of my favorite sites from Macy’s to Williams-Sonoma. I love to shop, and even more than shopping, I love finding a good deal when I shop.

The good thing about signing up for the mailing list of these stores is the great sales that you can access before it’s available to the general public.

The bad thing about signing up for the mailing list of these stores is the great sales that you can access before it’s available to the general public.

I finally stopped reading them, at least for now, because it seemed like everytime I’d open an email there would be something that I just couldn’t live without, or at least I thought I couldn’t. I have to say- I’ve got some amazing deals. Couple that with coupon codes, and I’ve saved a lot of cash!

But, since I’m trying to save and not spend, it’s best not to look, regardless how how great the deal is.

I Can See Clearly Now

Filed under: Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 8:32 am

Do you remember that song from the, what was it 70’s? Even though I am a child of the 60’s, I happen to love that song, but that isn’t what this entry is about. It does relate to seeing clearly and about something that I’d like to share with y’all. For those of you who know me, you know that I always love sharing products that I find that I think others can benefit from, and this is yet another one of those occasions.

This morning I was reading online when I came across an article about eyeglasses. Now, I don’t personally wear glasses, but both of my parents do so I figure it’s just a matter of time before I join them. I can’t tell you how many times mom has mentioned paying astronomical amounts for prescription glasses for both she and dad both, so after I read about the great prices that can be found online at Zenni, I decided to give mom a call. I told her that she should check her email that I was forwarding her an article that I read on how easy it is to get great prices on glasses by using Zenni optical.

I’m all for saving money and in this day and age with the uncertainties associated with the economy, the fact that someone offers prescription glasses for as little as $8.00 a pair is exciting. According to the article I read, they are able to do so because they have no middleman. They also don’t have a store that has excessive overhead that they have to cover, which ultimately is passed on to you. In addition, they don’t offer designer or brand name glasses, but instead, they offer inexpensive QUALITY glasses in many styles.

Mom had never heard of them, but now that she has, she said she’s definitely going to check them out. After all, the way I see it is why pay more if you don’t have to?

Sunshine and Coffee

I woke up this morning to sunshine and if I have anything to say about it, I plan to get out and enjoy some of it as soon as I get my work done. In fact, since Marcel is off today, maybe I can talk him into walking with me into town (provided the ice is off the sidewalks and it isn’t slippery anymore) and having a coffee at my favorite cafe.. I’d love to have a chococcino (chocolate cappuccino) but I’m trying to detox from the sugar. AND with that being said, I must confess that I did have some fudge last night in a moment of weakness. I’m not beating myself up, but determined to be more conscious and I WILL make it the 21 days without sugar.

But since I’m not supposed to be having sugar, that means that I’d need to have plain coffee, since the chococcino has chocolate in it. I love the cafe though. I think I’ve shared pictures before, and I noticed the other day when I went in to their little girls room that they had new hand dryers that I thought were very cool. You stick your hand slowly inside this little thing, and this really high speed air blows out and dries your hands instantly. I’ll admit, that I played with it even once my hands were dry because I thought it was fun. I know.. it really is the little things that amuse me.

Goals

Filed under: Holidays,Life,Sands of Time,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 11:45 am

I’ve decided that I’m not going to make resolutions this year, but what I am doing is setting some goals for myself and plan to follow through with them.

One I mentioned in the previous entries is that I am going to begin the journey to lose this last 40 pounds. I would like to reach that goal by November 1st. That gives me 11 months from today. It’s realistic and attainable. Join me in this journey to continued health and fitness if you’d like. I could use the company.

I want to spend more time focused on enjoying myself. I had fun last year, but I seemed frazzled alot of the time. This year, if I have the urge to play playstation 3, I’m going to stop and play, rather than think about playing later and time getting away from me. Time to stop and smell the roses along the way.

This is also going to be a year filled with gratitude. I’m blessed, and grateful for so much, and I do believe it’s important to recognize those things in our lives and be grateful for them. I challenge you to do the same- even if you don’t share yours in a public area, it’s always good to live a life of gratitude.

From the Guest Bedroom

Today I decided that I wanted to work from the comforts of the guest bedroom, so I grabbed my new laptop and headed off with Mister M. to this little space. It is cozy, the sun wasn’t glaring in my eyes, and because I keep the window cracked in here, it is cool. At some point during the day, Marcel came in and brought me coffee and commented that I haven’t turned my desktop computers on in a while. He’s right. I have been enjoying not having to sit at the desk, although I’m sure before the week is over I’ll spend some time there, after all, that IS where all my major files and information lie.
