On Women, Food and God (the Book)

It is no secret that I’ve been on a journey to a better, healthier lifestyle for the past year and a half, and the result of that journey so far has resulted in a weight loss of around 100 pounds. I still have a little way to go, but I can’t tell you how many people ask what ‘diet’ I’m on. I’m not-

I ordered the book On Women, Food and God after I read an excerpt on the Oprah website and I knew this was something I had to read for myself. I wasn’t expecting this book to be some magical key to weight loss, but what I was hoping for, was a different perspective to add to what I’ve learned during this process (which I imagine will be a learning experience from now on) and the book did not disappoint.

I haven’t read much lately and I admit to having a pretty huge pile of books in my ‘to read’ pile, but when I had this one in my hands, I wanted to read it immediately and soak up every little morsel of information. I’ll read it again and again, I’m sure.

The gift of the book helped teach me a few things about myself that I hadn’t thought of before, and that alone will help me along on this journey. I’m grateful I invested in myself buy purchasing the book. It was well worth the 25.00 price tag.

Browsing WordPress Themes for A New Look

For a while now I’ve been thinking that I’d like to make some changes to this space but truth is, I haven’t had the time. I’m not sure if it’s because spring has rolled in or exactly what, but I’m thinking about a new look and the photo above is a snippit of the look I’m thinking of changing to. I’ve been browsing wordpress themes and that’s the one I love the most so far. I’m still unsure which I’ll choose, so you’ll have to stop back in and see. It’s definitely time for something new.

All you need to do is take a picture at 5 O’ Clock today and send it in. Or you can write about it or share it somewhere else and let me know where it is so I can link it. I think it will be fun, and you can read more about it by reading about it at simplywizardress.com.

The more participation the better- so come on’ join in.

Movie Deals

Filed under: Shop til ya Drop,Things I Love — gardener @ 4:52 am

About two weeks ago I received an email from this new company that started up in our area that offered discounted deals for our area. They had a really great deal to receive a movie theater gift certificate good for a 7.50 discount at the movie for only 1.00. Now that was a deal I could really go for. Marcel and I both love the movies and we love home theater seating, so we signed up. A little while ago he brought in the mail and the gift certificates were in the mail. You gotta love it- a trip to the movies for two people for only 2.00. Now that I know the place is legit, I’ll be checking out their other deals.

The “Eyes” Have It.

Not too long ago, mom and I were talking on the phone and she mentioned that she and dad had appointments to get their eyes checked and that it looked like they would both be getting new perscriptions for eyeglasses. She commented that she really wasn’t looking forward to the new prescription because last time she and dad both had to have new glasses, they ended up spending close to $400.00 for two pair. Since I don’t wear glasses, I almost choked when she quoted that price.

My first question to her was why they didn’t get them from Zenni. She asked me where it was located and I explained to her that it wasn’t a ‘store’ that she could visit, but instead it was a virtual store online and that she could get glasses for as low as $8.00. Her first thought was that it was some sort of gimmick, but I assured her that the only difference was is that Zenni doesn’t sell designer frames, but that the quality is as good as if not better than some of the designer frames out there.

I explained that by not having physical store locations, it allowed them to keep their overhead lower, which ultimately meant savings in the customers pockets. Mom was impressed and said that for those prices she and dad would be giving it a shot. I told her that she would need to make sure and ask the doctor to measure their right and left pupilary distance and write it down for them, and the rest would be easy-peasy. I also told her if she needed any help, she could always call on me, after all- that’s what great daughters are for.

What is YOUR Signature?

~ “Every thought you produce, anything you say, any action you do, it bears your signature.” ~

I’m not sure who wrote this amazing quote, but it definitely made me pause for a moment and ponder the meaning beyond the surface. Think about it- What do the things you do and say say about you? What is YOUR signature?

Is your signature something positive or does it leave something to be desired? Does it drain the energy out of others, or does it inspire and encourage?

Just a lil food for thought on this Tuesday afternoon.

Learned About the Home Buying Tax Credit

I don’t know about y’all, but I’ve really found myself interested lately in learning about trying to find the best ways to get the most deductions when I file my taxes. I’ll admit that in the past I really haven’t thought much about it. Things have been pretty much straight forward, but so much has changed that I wanted to check into things and see what I could find.

Upon doing a little research, I found a great video about a home buying tax credit, which could benefit many of us. The video talked about a credit that had been extended into April 30th of this year. Basically, if you haven’t owned a home in the past three years, and you have bought or are in the process of buying a home and have a signed contract by April 30th of this year (with closing being done by the end of May), you are entitled to a new home tax credit of around $8,000. With all the struggles in the economy these days, that’s a tax break that many of us could use, but one that some of us may not even be aware of. I know I wasn’t.

Luckily, not only did I learn something that can possibly benefit us, but it can also possibly benefit y’all as well. It could also be a deciding factor for those of you who have been thinking about buying a home but weren’t sure. Now would definitely be the time so you can still get the tax credit.

Heroes -vs- Villians

I just finished watching last nights episode of Survivor that came on last night and it was one of my favorite episodes ever. This season has the “Heros” vs the “Villians” and some of my favorite players ever are playing, including J.T., Rupert, Colby, Russell and James. Hmmmmm, I just noticed when I was typing this that all of my favorites are guys.

Last nights episode was hilarious and I caught myself “LOLing” (Laughing out Loud) several times during the show. I can’t wait to see what happens next week. It’s going to be a good one. That’s all I’m sayin’, especially since I know Mom and Diddy haven’t watched it yet.

I’ve been watching Survivor since the first season and I have to say that I think this is my favorite to date. Anyone else out there watch it?

I’m Feelin’ Good

I’ve been pretty proud of myself lately that I’ve been spending more and more time on the elliptical and I’ve felt so much better. I really forgot how much I’ve missed spending the time on it, and even though I’m not back to same resistance level I was at last year, I’ll be getting there soon. Marcel has talked about starting to use it himself, just to build up a fitness level but he’ll first have to get rid of the shingles.

Once the days start getting longer, I’ll start doing some interval running, but I’ll do that in the evenings after dinner and the elliptical and strength training during the day. I’m determined to get this 40 off by November.

Need a New Look

You know, as much as I think this layout is adorable, and as much as I love the way it looks, I’ve been using it for a year now (hard to believe I’ve been here at my own house for a year) and I think it’s time for something new. I wish I had time to play with the CSS, HTML and the Photoshop in order to decorate all my homes (plus the one that still needs to be developed) but I just don’t have time.

If you know anyone who does a great job and can give me what I want for a decent price, please have them drop me a line here, because I really need something fresh, new and exciting. I have a few ideas, but need someone else to make the vision come to life.
