Making a List

I was on the phone with my brother last night while he was on his way home from work and one of us brought up the subject of Christmas. We haven’t spent the holidays together in two years and this year Marcel and I will spend two glorious months at home with my parents. He’s saved his vacation days all year so that it would be possible, and I can’t wait. Once we started talking about Christmas, the conversation turned to gift giving. I will be the first to admit that when we are home for the holidays, I tend to go a little overboard with the gift giving and Matt (my brother) said that one of his friends had just been given a really cool money clip with his initials and that he really liked it. I listened to him talk about it, and I made a mental note to check out engravable gifts to see if I could possibly get the money clip and add it to my brothers gift list for this upcoming Christmas.

I really love giving people things that I know they’ll like and even though gift cards can be nice from time to time, I have to say that I’d much rather give something a little more personal and I’ve seen personalized gifts that covers just about everything. My brother is also a huge fan of golf, so I’m seriously considering finding him something golf related that is personalized just for him. I know he’s going to love it and I’m going to love being home with everyone for the holidays.

Different and Fun

Everyone who knows me knows that I am a huge fan of romance and love. I guess that’s why when I opened my email a little earlier from a friend to ask me what he could get his wife for their upcoming anniversary I wasn’t surprised. He mentioned that it was their 5th and that the traditional 5th anniversary gift was wood and he wasn’t real sure what to do.   He wanted ideas as to what he could do to go along with the dinner that he was cooking for her- all of her favorites, I might add.

Since his wife is my cousin, I know just how fun she is, so I told him he should have some fun with the wedding anniversary gifts. I sent him the picture that you see on your left and told him that I thought he should order it for her, but instead of wrapping it up and giving it to her on their anniversary that he should serve her dinner while he’s wearing it. He loved the idea, and said that he was going to go for it.

Oh how I wish I was a fly on the wall for that moment.

Seem to Never Catch Up

I’m trying to play catch up after being extremely busy the past couple of days. I’ve gotten behind on my 30 days, so I have to catch up on both of those, plus Marcel and I are thinking about getting a camcorder for our upcoming vacation and travels that will commence within our vacation, so I’ve been checking out some camcorder reviews in hopes of deciding what will be the best for us. We bought a digital camcorder several (which is more than five now) years ago, but I think it’s time for something smaller and more portable. I think it would be fun to post HD videos to YouTube or even here to share with family and friends. Any suggestions on a great camcorder?

Fast Forward to Christmas- Almost

Things have been pretty busy around here the last couple of days and on top of everything else, I’ve started thinking about Christmas. Marcel and I will be home with the family this year for the holidays, and while I am scaling back in some areas, I’m not in others. Since our time home will be quite long, I want to have ideas for most of the gifts I want to buy ahead of time so that I can enjoy the time with family and friends without any other holiday pressures (aside from parties and get togethers with people I love). I’ve actually been thinking about a cute personalized gift for a few people and have several ideas. That’s all I’m going to say, since obviously some of them read this space and I don’t want them to know about their potential gift before Christmas rolls around.

I have SO many changes in the works right now- so expect to see more from me in the near future, along with a few surprises.

Travel Planning

Marcel and I have been planning and plotting for our upcoming vacation and we are already getting requests on doing different things. Plus, since we’ll be spending the holidays at home this year, I’ve already started thinking about Christmas gifts. I have an idea for a gift for my nephew, plus I know someone who would be thrilled to find themselves with some Taylor Swift tickets. Of course, it’s a good thing that they don’t read this blog, because I’d had to spoil any surprises before they happen. It’s still several months away, but I’m so excited about our trip.

Celebrating the 4th.

We have friends coming over today for a BBQ and I’ve been trying to get everything prepared for their visit. I’m happy to say that aside from carmelizing the walnuts to put in the cucumber apple salad, the food is prepared and everything is ready to go. I just hope the rains hold off so that we can sit outside when we eat, and maybe even see a few blue skies so that I can get some pictures of my friend Carrie. She’s very photogenic and I thought it would be fun to take some pictures of her, and she was sweet enough to agree.

My cramps have been horrible, so I’m having to take medication to keep the pain at bay, but at least I don’t have to suffer completeley. Right now, I need to finish breakfast and get a few other things done before they arrive.

If you are celebrating Independence Day this weekend, please be safe.

Vacation Planning Stages

Marcel and I are  am planning our two month trip home for the holidays and yesterday mom asked what I had in mind for our trip home.    Granted, just being home with family and friends is a vacation in itself, but since we didn’t get away much last trip, we thought it would be nice to do some traveling this time around.

At the moment there are plans to visit Florida to spend a week or more at Disney.   At this point those plans are pretty much up in the air, depending on several factors.

Desere will also be joining us for ten days and it looks like we may take a cruise while she’s with us.   She’s coming to spend her 40th birthday with us, and since Marcel were already thinking about taking the cruise, and when we told Desere about it she expressed interest in going as well.   I’ve never been on a cruise, so it’s definitely something to look forward to.

I’m sure I’ll be sharing more as the planning develops.

If Only

Filed under: Holidays,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 7:46 am

I’ve been trying to come up with something to get diddy for Father’s Day and for the life of me, I can’t decide what to get. He doesn’t really need anything, but I love him- he’s my diddy and I WANT to get him something. I think I’m going to browse through the circuit city website and see if I can come up with some ideas there. At least I’m getting an early enough start that I still have time to place an order.

What I would love most of all is to be there with him and cook dinner for him and mom. If only.

Gettin’ Away

It looks like Marcel and I are finally going to take that little vacation that we’ve been talking about doing for months now. Even though we have our vacation for this winter booked and ready to go, I have been itching to ‘get out of dodge’ for a while and just relax.

If all goes according to plan (we’ll know this coming week), then we’ll be heading away the weekend after Mother’s Day for a long weekend (Friday-Monday). I’ve found the location of where we’ll be staying and we’ll be taking JJ with us. We went back and forth on the idea for a while, since it will mean taking him literally everywhere we go, because I don’t think it’s fair to him to leave him alone (even in his crate) in a unfamiliar place, but ultimately I knew it would be fun for him.

I also realized that while we would be away that we would be passing close to the town where JJ’s breeder lives and since it’s time for him to have his seasonal ‘plucking’ and grooming session, I’d love to make an appointment and have her do it. Her prices are much cheaper than the lady we were going to use in the area, and since we wouldn’t be going out of our way to drive there, we’d actually be saving money by doing so.

That’s our plan at the moment, and I’m so ready to get away. I’ll have my mother in law check in on Mister, although he’ll be fine because I’ll make sure he has enough food and fresh water to keep him for a few days. I know he gets lonely though. I’m excited about this little get away, and since I’ve been saving change for months now, we have enough saved that it should pay for the entire weekend getsaway, provided we don’t buy anything extravagant. I’m excited and soo ready!

Tisket A Tasket A Flower Basket

I was looking today at the roses that Marcel gave me a few days ago, and couldn’t help but be reminded that in less than a month we’ll be celebrating Valentine’s Day. February is usually an expensive month for us, since it also happens to be the month of our anniversary, and on February 2nd, we’ll be celebrating six years or matrimonial bliss. It’s also the month of my mother-in-laws birthday. Several years ago, Marcel and I spent Valentine’s Day with Hein and Desere. The four of us went to dinner, and although we don’t have plans for that as of yet, I do think it would be fun, so who knows?

One thing I’m sure of, is that my darling will more than likely give me flowers. What kind of flowers will be a mystery until that day, but he loves giving me flowers ‘just because’ but also on holidays. Occasionally, I even order flowers myself. I’ve found though, that over the years, that when I order flowers online that I look for coupon codes, such as Proflower code that will save either a percent off the total price of the order, or even a certain dollar amount off if you spend a certain amount. Either way you slice it, it means savings in your pocket, and who doesn’t want to save a little cash? Who knows, you may just have enough left over to buy a box of chocolates. I’m a huge fan of coupon codes and don’t buy anything online without first looking for the codes, including when I buy flowers.
