Make a Wish- What Seeds do YOU Plant?

Filed under: Food for Thought,Life — gardener @ 10:36 am

makeawishToday I was out and about for part of the afternoon, and while walking through a beautiful wooded area I came across several dandelions that had gone to seed.    I paused for a moment to grab a few shots of them, and at the same time I found myself transported back to my childhood- where my brother and I would pick them one-by-one and ‘make wishes’ as we blew them into the wind.

It brought a smile to my face.

I also began thinking about how our lives are also like those tiny seeds-      Each day we have a opportunity to blow seeds out into the world-    some of which will do nothing, but some of which will take root.

It made me pause once again and think about the type of seeds I plant-    because be it positive or negative- they all have the potential to take root and grow.

I don’t know about you- but I want to plant seeds of love,  encouragement, compassion, laughter, empowerment, and friendship.   Those are the seeds I want to leave behind-  and those are the ones that I wish to take the deepest root and grow.

Glorious Spring

springAhhh Spring-   one of my favorite times of the year.     Admittedly- I’m one of those people who love “ALL” seasons for what they bring individually.    The ‘new life’ of Spring-    the long daylight hours and warmth of Summer, the colors and earthiness of Fall, and the coziness – cold, short days of Winter.

Right now- I’m in ‘full’ enjoyment mode of Spring.    I am noticing all the new growth- the beauty of all the colors popping up everywhere-  and an overall beauty everywhere I look.    The skies are a little bluer-  and even what many deem as ‘weeds’ have a deep beauty to them.

Last week- I took this shot on my way to a friends home a couple of hours from me.    We made a ‘pit stop’ (aka bathroom break) and it was so beautiful that I paused and took in the scenery around me.     This photo doesn’t do it justice, that’s for certain.

Today-  I encourage you to pause-   look around and switch your focus from whatever has your mind wandering and reeling- to embrace your surroundings and find the beauty in what is right there in front of your nose.    See it?

So tell me- what did you see?

Let the Music Play

If you’ve known me anytime at all- you know that my best friend’s husband has a side business as a DJ. They are both very talented when it comes to music- She sings, and has since we were children, and he’s a very accomplished trumpet player. The love of music they share was the brain child behind the DJ business- and over the years he’s done many weddings, school events, parties, charity events, and the list goes on.

In spite of being someone who doesn’t know ‘that’ much about music- his set up is impressive. He has some great equipment, and a great scene setter to keep the lighting matched up with the tunes that happen to be playing. It’s fun seeing him in action, and also seeing how much people enjoy having him at their events. It’s definitely something I’d love to sit in on sometime. The music makes every event memorable.

Hello May

Filed under: Life — gardener @ 9:34 am

It’s hard for me to believe we are starting the 5th month of the year. I’ll admit that while the first few months have seemingly flew by, at the same time- I also don’t find that I’ve accomplished nearly what I had hoped I would do- which leaves me wondering what the reason is behind that.

I have definitely learned a lot thus far this year, much about balance and at the same time, I still don’t feel that I’m exactly where I need to be. It’s a learning process, this thing called life, and I’m grateful that I continue to learn and grow.

A dear friend is moving this month- In a few short weeks. I will miss her, her husband and two children, but at the same time- I’m over-the-moon excited for them that they are starting a new adventure and new chapter to their life. I have great joy for them and everything that is headed their way.

I also know that even though she may not be around the corner any longer after this month, that we will remain in contact, and make plans to see each other in the future when we are traveling. It isn’t goodbye, it’s see you later.

How is your may shaping up thus far?

Appear as You Are.. BE as You Appear

Filed under: Food for Thought,Inspiration,Life — gardener @ 11:44 am

“Be like the sun for grace and mercy. Be like the night to cover others’ faults. Be like running water for generosity. Be like death for rage and anger. Be like the Earth for modesty. Appear as you are. Be as you appear.” ― Rumi

Yesterday I posted this quote on my Facebook page. It really struck me as I read it, as how so many of us want to appear one way, but in reality we are something else.

Be it out of fear to be vulnerable or a plethora of other reasons that we tell ourselves- at some point or another in life- we have all hidden behind the façade of how we want others to perceive us, even if that isn’t who we are.

When I first started using the Internet back in the 90’s, I remember reading an article about how when people are ‘faceless’ (this was clearly before Instagram and selfies took over) that it is easy to pretend to be something we aren’t. It’s the digital world where some think ‘anything goes’ and so many did- (and maybe still do) use the Internet to become a fictional version of themselves. Granted, this isn’t also the case- but the article talked about how one could only pretend for around 3 months to be something other than who they are without ‘true self’ shining through.

It was then I developed my ‘3 month rule’ for meeting people face-to-face that I had originally met online. It has served me well over time. The one time I did not follow said rule- the person was nothing like they appeared to be, and thankfully they weren’t an axe-murderer.

Even in face-to-face relationships with people in our lives- we often hold back- only sharing what we know will be accepted, which is in contradiction to the aforementioned quote.

“Appear as you are. Be as you appear.” Think about it for a moment, and ask yourself this question.. Do you appear as you are? And are YOU as you appear?

Enter Spring Projects

Filed under: Home,Inspiration,Life,Seasons,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 11:24 am

The time change and longer daylight hours (and a bit of sunshine) have given both Marcel and I a huge boost of energy when it comes to home projects. We have both been working on various painting projects, plus browsing goods home furnishings best furniture to decide what new additions we would like to add to our home after we get finished with painting.

We are giving the inside a few more weeks before getting started on the painting- so that we can leave the doors open and the fumes won’t take over- but the outside is taking shape and we are getting ready to paint a small area that is our ‘lounge’ space. I picked up some adorable wooden letters today to go along with the pallet sign I bought last week- both will look amazing- and once the plants and flowers start blooming, it’s going to be even prettier- Yes, it’s going to be a great year for home projects, and Spring is the perfect time.

Wedding Planning Across the Miles

Some, if not most of you who read this space know that one of my best friends daughters are engaged and the wedding will take place next summer. It is one of those things that I’m very excited about- my first Southern wedding in a very long time (since moving), plus it’s extra special to me because it is the marriage of two people that I adore and love. It has been wonderful seeing them grow from teenagers to college graduates and now planning to start their lives together.

I am honored to be able to help in the planning. Even though I am not physically ‘there’- I love that technology allows me to help plan across the miles. It brings me great joy. From the flowers, to the ceremony, to the venue (which we chose when I was home for the holidays) to everything in between- I’m so excited to be a part and can’t wait to see Miss A. start her life with the man she’s loved for so many years.

Lets Get the Party Started

Filed under: Life,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 8:16 am

In the midst of wedding planning across the miles- I’m finding that I’m learning things about weddings and wedding music that had never really crossed my mind- I’ve always thought- get the band, let them work their magic and be done with it, but it isn’t quite working out like that, since the band is also a family friend.

I’ve learned that I need to order rapco cables for the speakers, and also that having a band also is much different than having a DJ- in terms of how much space each needs.

It’s going to be a magical night, filled with music, dancing and a lot of fun. Lets get this party started.

In the Presence of Joy

Filed under: Food for Thought,Gratitude — gardener @ 12:09 pm

This afternoon I was thinking about the weekend I spent with some amazing women- the joy that I feel not only in their company, but in seeing them and everyone around me thrive in their lives- It is my wish for everyone- and I realized just how amazing the people are who I choose to surround myself with. There is no better feeling.

In the midst of this introspect- I posted this on my personal (and private) Facebook page. It’s a great way to start the new week.

When I think of the things that bring me the greatest joy in life- they are the ‘joy rising’ moments that rise up from the depth of your soul and bring tears to your eyes. It isn’t in pomp and circumstance or grand gesturing- it’s in being able to do something small to create a smile on someone else’s face, or make their life a little easier- in seeing others celebrate their life successes- and living their best life their way.

This life is so precious- Celebrate the people around you- embrace them, build them up – and encourage them to empower themselves. TELL THEM how much they matter. WE ALL Matter! BE the reason that someone smiles today.

Home Projects

Filed under: Home — gardener @ 10:45 am

The home projects continue with Marcel being ‘almost’ done with our outside furniture- We decided earlier this week that we would leave them all taken apart- which would give us more space to take everything off the two walls that need a paint update- From there we’ll wash down the walls, give them a fresh new coat of yellow paint (it doesn’t get happier than yellow), and then start working on getting the gardening done. I’m very much looking forward to seeing my herbs and vegetables grow this year, plus seeing the flowers blossom and grow.

I’ve even got a few gatherings in the works as the days get longer.

Speaking of longer days- we did postpone the inside painting until we can leave the doors open for the paint to dry- so that my allergies won’t suffer.

What house projects are you working on?
