Too Hot to Handle

Filed under: Home,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 9:45 am

Marcel and I were talking the other day about taking a trip ‘home’ during the summer. He knows this means extreme temps and humidity. Personally, I don’t think he would be able to withstand an hour in that humidity, but he thinks otherwise. He doesn’t realize that it’s so bad there that many people use a home dehumidifier to keep the moisture out of the air in their homes. It keeps the mold and mildew at bay, not to mention the stinky smells associated with it.

Our plan is to eventually move home and when we do, I know that I’ll be listening to him complain about the heat from May until the end of Septermber. At least he won’t have to worry about snow.

Living Colorfully

Last weekend when we went to dinner with Hein and Desere for an early Valentine’s Day, belated anniversary dinner, I wore heels and red socks with my outfit. I had on black pants, a charcoal grey sweater with black shoes. My handbag, socks and scarf were crimson. Oh, and let’s not forget my lipstick- which was also crimson.

I have noticed that socks with heels are the big thing right now, and I figured I could either wear black socks and let them blend with the shoes and pants or I could be ‘bold’ and colorful and wear red. I chose to be bold and colorful and loved every second of it.

A few days ago I was browsing the Kate Spade website and I came across some adorable socks from their Spring collection. I want every pair and in fact, I may order them very soon. Ironically- their motto right now is ‘Live Colorfully’ and I think that suits me perfectly.

Time for Something New

Filed under: Shop til ya Drop,Techy — gardener @ 5:00 am

Desere was over last week for coffee and during the course of our conversation, she told me that the desktop computer that the boys have been using to do their homework and play games had stopped working. We talked about the possible causes, but we both decided that while it is possible that it could be repaired, that she’d really like to get rid of the desktop and buy a smaller, more portable computer, such as one of the tablet computers that are so popular right now. Not only will it free up space where the desktop now sits, but it will also mean the boys can do their homework on the couch or in other places, which makes it much more convenient. She’s looking for good deals and even though she hasn’t told the boys, will probably buy one in the next couple fo weeks as a surprise to them. I know they’ll be thrilled, and she’ll be glad to have her laptop back as her own.

Thinking About It

I was lying in bed this morning before actually getting up, thinking of ways that I could rearrange my closet to fit the clothes (and shoes) that I bought while we were on vacation. Since the clothes are all stacked (neartly, I might add) in a moving box that we used as one of our checked pieces of luggage; I haven’t made much of an effort to move them because I know what is going to be required to get them in the closet.

While I was struggling with jet lag- I didn’t even consider attempting to reorganize my closet, but now that I’m pretty much over the jet lag and regaining some energy- I’ve actually started thinking of things I can do to make the transisition easy or at least less time consuming.

Tomorrow is our anniversary, so I doubt it will happen tomorrow (7 years of marital bliss) but I suspect within the next couple of days that my closet will take on a new look. I’m feeling inspired and this, my friends, is a good thing.

Lots of Catching Up to Do

Filed under: Life,Memories,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 6:50 am

When I ever get enough rest that I actually have something that resembles energy- I really have a lot that I would like to talk about on this blog and my others. While some of my friends are starting to think about prom dresses for their daughters, I’m thinking about the best way to train JJ so he will listen. It’s a huge contrast from my friends with children, but our children happen to have four legs instead of two.

Some people have asked me if it makes me feel as though I have less in common with some of my friends and personally I don’t remember ever feeling that way. It makes me sad sometime to think about getting old and being alone, but on the whole, I know my life is good and I have a great time spoiling other peoples children.

I wonder how some of my friends who don’t have children feel.

Male Bonding

Filed under: Home,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 5:34 am

While we were on vacation, I noticed that my brother and Marcel had one major thing in common amongst all the little things and that was the fact that they love cars and making them look their best. Now, when I say ‘making them look their best’ I don’t really mean keeping them clean and waxed, because that goes without saying. Instead, one should think on a deeper level and the fact that they both love adding features to the car that allows the car to be uniquely their own.

I loved listening to them talk about how they’d wanted to change this and that, plus my brother even took Marcel to a friend of diddy’s to show him the wood dashboard that he had ordered and installed in an old classic car that he’d found for a little bit of nothing and had been fixing it up here and there over the past year or so. It goes without saying that Marcel loved the look and one evening they spent hours pouring over a website that offers everything they could ever want to create the look they want, and I have to admit that even I was impressed with the prices and selection and we all know that my idea of a cool car is one that looks great and that drives well.

I was happy to see my brother and Marcel have that bonding experience and they even talked about possibly one of these days buying a car together and fixing it up. I would love to see how that would turn out, and who knows- I may find out sooner rather than later.

Convincing the Folks

Filed under: Shop til ya Drop,Techy — gardener @ 9:45 am

Now that we’ve got mom and diddy set up with new computers, I’ve found that in spite of them not wanting to get rid of their old trusty (dinosaur) printer that it just doesn’t seem to be working the way it should with the new computers. It’s old, so I’m pretty sure it isn’t a compatability issue but more of an age issue, so while I’m sick I’m going to look online at some brother printers and see if I can’t find something that they’ll be happy with that will be great with ink. I’m sure I’ll find something without any problems and then it will be a question of convincing the folks to make the purchase.

Just What I Need

Since ‘Santa’ gave me a Kindle for Christmas, one of my favorite things to do is browse through the books that are available. A few nights ago I found a download that shows some good ab workouts for the bargain price of less than 2.00. Needless to say- I bought it on the spot and have been checking it out. Granted, I haven’t actually started using it yet, but I will be, and soon. I WILL kiss this last 40 pounds goodbye this year. It’s time to stop talking and start doing.

Learning Something New

Filed under: Shop til ya Drop,Techy — gardener @ 9:47 am

Now that mom and diddy are set up with their new computers (thank goodness) and the dinosaur computer is sitting in the corner waiting to have pictures moved, they are really excited about the fact that they have a network and they can transfer information from one computer to another. When I first set everything up- mom asked if she and diddy were going to need an it degree in order to make their way through the network, but they found out that it was much easier than they thought. I still have a couple of things to teach them, but I’m sure that they’ll be able to learn it without any problems.

Shop Til You Drop

Filed under: Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 9:02 am

When Desere was here- she and I had a ‘shop til you drop’ day. We literally shopped all day long, something I haven’t done in years. I found some amazing bargains and we filled the trunk of the car to capacity. It was quite comical when we got home and saw the look on everyone’s faces as we brought bag after bag inside the house. Some of it was for Christmas, but I’ll admit- most of it was for me. I’ve promised myself that I won’t buy any more handbags though. I now am the proud owner of 5 new ones, so I think that’s enough. I have to say- we sure had a blast.
