Sugar is the Devil in Disguise

I’m officially going on a sugar detox starting right now.

I believe that Samantha and I ate our way through the chocolate capital of the world- Belgium, and we had some of the most delicious bon-bon’s in the world. Rich, creamy, and downright sinful.

How I managed to make it through the last two weeks without gaining weight is beyond my comprehension, but I’m not complaining- I’m grateful. We had fun, we shared our chocolates- each taking one bite, so each chocolate was split into three’s (with the exception of the chocolate orange flavors- I didn’t share those- but there were only three in total), but it was so good. We ate chocolate covered strawberries at Godiva and sampled some of the funkiest flavors from The Chocolate Line, plus nibbled our way through everywhere in between.

The downfall- I now officially need a sugar detox. I admit it- I’m addicted, and now I’m craving sugar… So not even a grain of sugar for me- so don’t tempt me!

Sugar is the devil in disguise- trust me.

Allergies and Sinuses, Oh Bah!

My bath water is running, so this is going to be quick.   As much as I love traveling, I’m always happy to get home and relax for a little while, even though the itch to travel never seems to stop.   Once I get rested, I’m ready to start planning again, and I’ve been doing just that.

My allergies have really been bothering me lately, and I’m almost out of allergy medication, so I called the refill line today at the doc’s office, and I should be able to pick them up tomorrow.   I’m not sure that they are doing everything they could be, because I seem to still be having more problems than usual, even with the medication.    It seems like I’m not the only one though, I’ve heard more stories of people saying their allergy and sinus issues were higher than usual this year.

One of my friends did tell me that I should look into getting a Nettie Pot to wash out the sinus cavity.  I did see it on Oprah a while back when Dr. Oz was on, and it did look interesting, and I’ve  heard many rave reviews about it. I’m going to look to see if I can find any Drugstore.com coupons and order one from them if they carry them. I’ve ordered so much from them in the past, and have always been satisfied with their products.

If I can’t find one there, then maybe I could find Amazon coupons and order one from them. I remember when Amazon was books only, but times have changed- you can find everything but the kitchen sink at their site, and who knows, maybe you could even find that if you tried!

Have any of you tried the Nettie Pot? What has been your experience with them? I have heard that you have to make sure that the water is lukewarm- not too cold or hot, but if it helps, I’m all for it- even if the concept is a bit odd sounding.

Time to dash before my bath water runs over. Please feel free to share your Nettie Pot experiences if you have any. Inquiring minds want to know.

Great Expectations

You may or may not know- my birthday was Sunday. I turned 42, which I don’t mind saying, because I know I don’t look 42- (what does 42 look like anyway). It was also Samantha’s last day, so I spent my birthday with two of my favorite people- Marcel and Samantha. I didn’t celebrate in the traditional sense, but later this week, Thursday to be exact, I’ll be celebrating again with Hein and Desere with a dinner out. I’ve just got to figure out which restaurant we’re going to. At this point, I have no idea. The company will be good, and that’s ultimately what matters anyway.

A friend wished me a great upcoming year, and I responded with that I was expecting great things, and I am. I have been noticing a change in myself for some time now, and I feel my life taking a different turn- a turn that is only going to bring greater things into my life than I’ve already been experiencing.

Some may call that wishful thinking, or even dreaming- I call it positive thinking- expect great things and great things will happen. In fact- they already are.

I’m in the process of playing catch-up both around the house and on the computer, so bare with me if I owe you an email or some sort of correspondence. I’m late with several birthdays- none of which I’ve forgotten, but I’m behind schedule- it happens to the best of us.

Expect more regular entries from me in the near future, but right now, I could use a bath. I’m still trying to get back in the swing of things after Samantha’s visit. She and I couldn’t seem to get to bed before 1 each night, and on many nights it was pushing 2 or even 3. It was great, and I’d do it again in a second.  Next trip-  I think we’re going to Prague.

My Gratitude List for July 14, 2009.

Today I’m Grateful For:

  • Samantha choosing to celebrate her 40th birthday here with me, and staying to celebrate mine as well.
  • Good things happening around me.
  • The element of surprise.
  • Green vegetables.
  • Those who have shown me so much love, and whom I know I can count on, in thick and thin.
