Back on Track

In an efforts to improve my own health and in hopes of finally getting to my goal in this weight loss endevour, I’ve started back on the elliptical again after a long time of not using it. It wasn’t as bad as I thought, but I could definitely tell I haven’t been on it in a while.

I decided that I’m cutting out the sugar, and am really going to be avoiding it, because it’s almost like a drug for me. The more I eat, the more I crave, and you can imagine the cycle. I didn’t work this hard to gain the weight back, so I’m going to make sure that doesn’t hapen.

30 Days to Greater Happiness

Filed under: 30 Days To... — gardener @ 10:38 am

As you know, I really dropped the ball on this 30 Days to Greater Happiness. I hope none of you were depending on those. Forgive me for that, I’ve been a little distracted, and it looks like it’s only going to get worse.

I did want to make sure that you were able to see them all, so I’ve added the rest of the month below-

November 18- Help Others.– Sharing your time or talents with the less fortunate can help you
appreciate how much you truly have and feel better about your circumstances.

November 19- Beat Stress. Life’s difficulties can take a toll on your mood. But stress busters like
exercising, talking to a friend, and journaling can help clear your head and calm you down.

November 20- Get Some Sun. Sunlight improves your mood and can help prevent the onset of seasonal depression. Don’t forget the SPF!

November 21- Maintain Your Health.– The healthier you are, the more likely you are to be happy. Eating right, exercising, getting preventive care, and reducing your stress level can all enhance health and happiness.

November 22- Spend Time Outside. Getting closer to nature can help you feel more connected to the world at large. Spend time outside today walking, biking, picnicking, or raking, or planting a tree.

November 23- Just Say No. If you’re already overworked and overscheduled, don’t take on more tasks in order to please others. You have to remember to please yourself too.

November 24- Create a mantra. Does a particular word, phrase or quote make you feel better? Make it your mantra. Write it, think it, and repeat it any time you need a little perspective or a pickme- up.

November 25- Connect with Your Family. Make time for your loved ones, partner and children each day. Reminisce, celebrate, and just have fun together! Enrich your life with family memories for greater purpose and satisfaction.

November 26- Do Your Best. Your accomplishments are important and deserve recognition, so be proud of a job well done. Mastering skills and meeting goals can increase your own self-esteem and self-worth.

November 27- Grow a Garden. Watching plants grow and thrive under you care is a great experience! Dig in with cheer, knowing you’re beating stress, becoming more active, and surrounding your home with beauty.

November 28- Make a Donation. Clear the clutter in your home and give all those “extras” you don’t use to someone who needs them. By downsizing, organizing and giving, you’ll help yourself and others at the same time.

November 29- Laugh Out Loud Visit a comedy club or watch a funny show. Laughing makes you feel good, so make time for fun and humor every day.

November 30- Ask for Help.. If You Need It. If you feel unhappy most of the time, talk to a therapist, career counselor, or spiritual advisor to help you find what makes you happy.

Getting Serious

I don’t know about y’all, but according to my scales, I’ve gained two pounds since Wednesday. Granted, I know that it’s water weight from eating much more salt than I normally do, but I’m sure the excess calories haven’t helped either. I feel like I’ve been having some hgh, which means it’s time to do what I already knew to be true- time to get start exercising again.

No excuses, no more chocolate, or evening snacks. It’s time to get serious about reaching my goal weight, holidays or not.

Ooops

Ooops. Looks Like I’ve really gotten behind on the 30 days to greater happiness. I’ll try to catch up tomorrow or the next day. We’ve been a little busy around the wizzy household getting ready for Thanksgiving, planning parties, and attending dinners. You know how it is- the life of a socialite is never dull. haha

From the Guest Bedroom

Today I decided that I wanted to work from the comforts of the guest bedroom, so I grabbed my new laptop and headed off with Mister M. to this little space. It is cozy, the sun wasn’t glaring in my eyes, and because I keep the window cracked in here, it is cool. At some point during the day, Marcel came in and brought me coffee and commented that I haven’t turned my desktop computers on in a while. He’s right. I have been enjoying not having to sit at the desk, although I’m sure before the week is over I’ll spend some time there, after all, that IS where all my major files and information lie.

30 Days To Greater Happiness

Try not to faint, I actually got finished with my work and decided that while I was on the computer anyway, I’d actually post today’s entry for getting happier on the specified date.

I was hoping to have the opportunity to get a few more things done today, but after getting a really late start, I’m happy for what I did get done.

November 17- Forgive and Forget. Refusing to forgive fosters anger and resentment, which makes your own life miserable. Let go and put your energy into something positive so that you can be happier.

Home Improvement

Filed under: Life — gardener @ 12:38 pm

Marcel and I have been thinking that it’s time to start doing a few more home improvements in the house. We’ve been talking about it for quite some time, but it seems like one thing or another comes up and we never actually get anything productive done. Personally, I want to wait until after the first of the year, since the holidays are quickly approaching, but he wants to start within the next week. We are wanting to replace the doors throughout the house, add rocker switches to all the lighting, and possibly add crown moulding throughout. My idea? Hire someone to do it all so we don’t have the headache.

I’ll keep y’all posted on how it plays out.

30 Days to Greater Happiness

Filed under: 30 Days To... — gardener @ 11:39 am

I seem to be a day late and a dollar short with keeping up with these, but at least you’re getting the information, even if it is slower than it should be. Better late than never right?

November 15- Don’t Compare Yourself to Others. Happy people judge themselves
by their own yardsticks, never against what others do or have. Keep up with yourself-not the Joneses.

November 16- Play With Your Pet. Simply petting an animal can decrease anxiety, depression, and blood pressure. So give your pet a little extra attention and you’ll increase your own calmness and pleasure.

Taking Charge

Filed under: Life — gardener @ 11:24 am

Things have been so busy lately that I feel like I am a passenger in my own life story. I decided today that something had to change, so I’m going to be making a few changes in my life, in the way I approach my work projects and a few other things. It may take me a little while to get things the way I want them, but I have to remind myself that it’s time to start taking time for me, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do.

More on this process later.

Learning Curve

Filed under: Life — gardener @ 10:33 am

Today was one of those typical Monday’s when it seemed like I was paddling backwards in a boat with a strong current. Luckily, I can say that the day is almost over and Desere is coming over shortly for coffee, chat and for us to watch Grey’s together. Lately, my work has allowed me to research various things such as best acne treatments and also the benefits of lycopene. No, the two aren’t related, but the great thing about my job is that not only do I get to do something I love, I also get to feed the grey matter, and learning is something that challenges me and makes me thrive.

Changes coming…. see next entry.
