How Do I Spell Relief? V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N

Filed under: Sands of Time,Travel — gardener @ 11:33 am

There is so much going on right now that the one thing I think I need more than anything is a vacation. I had a great day yesterday with a baby shower for a friend of mine, given by another friend, but came home to find out that someone I love back home is in a drug induced coma due to having seizures. My first instinct was to fly back home for a while, but right now I’m just waiting to see what happens.

I need a break- from the stresses of everything, so that I can center myself and come back with a vengance. I think that a vacation fully away from everyone and everything may be the only way to do that.

Forget Calgon- I need a plane and a warm, sunny destination.

Gratitude – February 24, 2010

Filed under: Gratitude — gardener @ 11:46 am

I haven’t written a dailiy gratitude list in a while, but even though I haven’t, I still take some time each day to be grateful for all the wonderful things in my life. There are many, and I know without a doubt that I am blessed.

My Gratitude List for February 24, 2010.

Today I’m Grateful For:

  • An afternoon spent with friends over lunch, great conversation and laughter.
  • The fact that the snow has once again stopped and what fell yesterday didn’t stick to the ground.
  • The beautiful bouquet of roses that Desere brought me today, just because.
  • Rich Chocolate Velvet coffee and a super healthy banana muffin – a recipe that I created myself.
  • Marcel, for jumping in and helping me with little things when I’ve had cramps so bad I couldn’t hardly move.

Creatures of Habit

Filed under: Life,Shop til ya Drop — gardener @ 11:31 am

Now that Marcel and I have started going through our insurance policies, he’s decided that maybe it’s a good idea rather than to just check up on our life insurance, to check up on all of our insurance online and see if we can get better policies with more coverage for less money.

I guess I’m just a creature of habit because I kind of like the old saying that we don’t need to fix what isn’t broken. It’s great to be informed of everything available and be educated on that, but I’m not ready to change. What we have works, and I’d prefer to leave it like that. Can I get an Amen?

Cleaning out the Closets

Marcel and I have been in this process of Spring cleaning since the weather hasn’t been good enough to do much of anything else. In that process, we’ve tossed a bunch of papers that we really have no use for anymore, making sure to shred them before we did. We also decided that it’s about time that we update our life insurance policy since it has been a while since we’ve done that.

Tomorrow, I’m going to tackle my closet… That should be fun.

All For a Reason

I was re-reading an article a little while ago that Martha Beck wrote that appeared in an “O” magazine back in 2008. The article is about time management and how that we often think that something is important just because it’s important to someone else. A particular quote from that article resonated with me when I read it for the first time in 2008, and yet I was reminded of that same quote when I read the article again today.

To live richly and avoid regret, we must give priority to things of real importance.

Now I know that each of us prioritize and compartmentalize things in different ways, so what may be important to me, may not even receive a second look from you. But what important is that we all realize that in order to make the most out of these beautiful lives we’ve been given, we need to really learn the difference in what really IS important and what may SEEM important but really isn’t.

The article goes on to say: Pay attention, and you’ll notice that even when you’re under “urgent” pressure to do something unimportant, it feels discordant and wrong. Do what really matters, and your life comes into harmonious alignment.. From there it gives information and tips on how you can prioritize your life and it works as long as you read the article, take notes and learn from it by applying the principals to your own life.

Even though I actually own the “O” magazine that this article was printed in, I actually received this article via email today from the “O” magazine mailing list. I hadn’t thought about that article in a while, nor had I practiced the principals, and believe me, my life shows it.

Do you think it was a coincidence that I received that article three days after recommitting myself to a work out routine and healthy eating and have been wondering how I’m going to find time to fit in work and exercise without having to get up at the crack of dawn? I can answer that one for you- Nothing is coincidence. There’s a reason for everything, and this was a reminder that I needed. I’m grateful that it came when it did.

Five Foods That Should Never Be in Your Shopping Cart

Most people who know me know that I’m a huge fan of Doctor Oz. I know that he’s been given the moniker America’s Doctor, and I love that he is committed and dedicated to teaching us all how to live healthier, longer lives.

I’m one of those odd people who love to go to the grocery store. I do. Maybe it’s because I love to shop, or maybe it’s because I like to cook. Possibly it may even be because I enjoy seeing what new products and things are on the market. I go down every single aisle each week, and feel as though I’ve missed something if I don’t.

I read this article about 5 things that should never find their way into our shopping cart and even though it was information that I already knew, I wanted to share it with others who may not know. You never know what a difference it could make in your life.

If you’d like to read the article, click the picture, which will take you to the website. It could save your life.

Spring Cometh

This morning I realized a couple of things. One is that it is getting daylight earlier than it was, which means that it’s also getting darker later. The days are getting longer, and that’s a sure sign that spring is on the way.

I also was thrilled to wake up and look out the window and see something other than grey skies. I saw blue, and sunshine. It was an instant mood lifter and actually made me want to get out of bed instead of lounging.

I sleep with the curtains open because I like to see outside when I’m lying in bed. The window covers one wall, and it’s beautiful on clear evenings to watch the stars, and also on nights when it’s storming to watch the lightening and hear the rain pelt against the window pane.

I have a lot on my mind this evening. After receiving the news that someone I knew a long time ago passed away last night, I’m feeling a great sadness for those left behind. I know she’s in a better place but it doesn’t make it any easier for those who loved her.

Life is so fragile. Make each and every moment count.

Chasing Spring

I’m still thinking about travel today, and even thought about planning a weekend getaway for the weekend coming up, except Marcel has to work. I wish he could take the time off because I could really use a get-away but right now I just don’t see it in the cards. Who knows, maybe I’ll get some friends together and just get away for the day. Even that would be better than nothing.

Maybe I’m just chasing spring time, I don’t know- I just know I’m ready for some sunshine and some fun that isn’t spent indoors. I was actually looking at trips to Iceland the other day and Marcel said that was the last place he wanted to go, because we’d be going from cold to colder, but I don’t think it would be as bad as the name sounds.

Wander Lust

Filed under: Travel — gardener @ 2:58 am

I’m sitting here watching JJ attempt to bury his bone inside his crate and I can’t help but laugh. He’s so funny and animated and I honestly think he has the potential to be the best dog that I have ever owned, running a close second to our old family dog, Cocoa- who was brilliant.

Marcel and I have been talking recently about doing some traveling. Since this is the year for our ‘big’ vacation later in the year, we don’t want to make it anything major, but we do want to get away for a weekend, or even a week to relax and not have to think about the responsibilities of everyday life. We’ve been going back and forth as to whether we’ll take JJ with us, or if we’ll let his mom babysit. I guess it will depend on the type of weekend get away we take. Part of me thinks it would be fun to take him somewhere new to experience, and then part of me just wants the quiet time without having to worry about ANY responsibilities, including that of taking a dog out. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how it all plays out, and where we end up going.

It doesn’t really matter to me where it is, as long as it’s somewhere.

Ode to Oats

I know I mentioned it in my gratitude list yesterday, but have I mentioned how happy I am that I am finally in full supply of steel-cut oats again? Marcel was out with JJ yesterday and when he came in, I noticed he had something behind his back, and it was the package that mom and diddy had sent. I literally screamed for joy. I’d been eating yogurt for the past month or so, but there is nothing better for breakfast than my beloved steel-cut oats. It’s better than any quick trim burn and cleanse, not to mention it’s heart healthy and WARM, which is a great thing considering the sub-zero temps that we’ve been having.

It’s funny how the little things make all the difference isn’t it?
