Convincing the Folks

Filed under: Shop til ya Drop,Techy — gardener @ 9:45 am

Now that we’ve got mom and diddy set up with new computers, I’ve found that in spite of them not wanting to get rid of their old trusty (dinosaur) printer that it just doesn’t seem to be working the way it should with the new computers. It’s old, so I’m pretty sure it isn’t a compatability issue but more of an age issue, so while I’m sick I’m going to look online at some brother printers and see if I can’t find something that they’ll be happy with that will be great with ink. I’m sure I’ll find something without any problems and then it will be a question of convincing the folks to make the purchase.

Get Healthy

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking since I started feeling bad a few days ago and I can’t help but wonder if there’s something that I’m doing that is lowering my immune system. Diddy seems to think I’m not getting enough rest, and yet I think it’s mostly because of the fact that the weather seems to be on a rampage. One day it’s cold and the next it’s not.

It seems like everywhere I look, someone is either sick, been sick or feeling like they are getting sick. I’ve been around those people so maybe it’s just being passed around. I’m not sure but what I do know is that I want to get healthy and stay healthy.

That’s One Way to Do It

In spite of my efforts to start eating better and working out, I think the one thing that’s helping more than the top 10 diet pills or anything else is the fact that I’m not feeling well at the moment. I did manage to eat some oats this morning, but aside from drinking green tea and eating soup, I haven’t had much of an appetite. I guess there are definite benefits to not feeling well, especially if it shows up as a loss on the scales.

Green Tea

I found myself feeling under the weather (yet again) and have decided that for some reason I don’t have much of a stomach right now for coffee. Instead, I’ve been drinking more green tea than usual and even though I don’t really notice any type of difference in the way I feel, I know that overall the antioxidants are good for me. I’m hoping that it will cut the time of this little cold – sinus infection in half or at least shorten it somehow.

What do you do when you find yourself struggling with a cold?

Just What I Need

Since ‘Santa’ gave me a Kindle for Christmas, one of my favorite things to do is browse through the books that are available. A few nights ago I found a download that shows some good ab workouts for the bargain price of less than 2.00. Needless to say- I bought it on the spot and have been checking it out. Granted, I haven’t actually started using it yet, but I will be, and soon. I WILL kiss this last 40 pounds goodbye this year. It’s time to stop talking and start doing.

Sniffle Sniffle

I woke up this morning with a case of the sniffles.   Thankfully, so far it hasn’t turned into anything other than a runny nose (not the first I’ve had this trip) and I hope that it doesn’t.   We have a lot to do in the next week and a half that we have left and I can’t afford to be sick.

Thankfully we didn’t have much going on today so I’ve been able to rest and relax- although I did spend a little time outside cuddling with the kitties.   They are about the cutest thing ever and bring me so much joy.  I wish I could pack all three of them in my suitcase and take them home with me-  although I somehow think Mister M. would protest.   JJ, on the other hand would see it as three new playmates.

Goodbye Chocolate Cake

This morning I said goodbye to the chocolate cake that I’ve been eating every chance I get since Saturday. My friend Natalie makes these fabulous cakes and she brought a huge triple chocolate creation to the gathering this past Saturday. There was some left over, and I’ve been eating it- and eating it- and yes- eating it.

Last night- I vowed that it would be my last piece and in spite of the serious urge to cut myself another piece, I haven’t. If I don’t watch it, I’m going to need to ask the question- is hoodia effective and try to find out because my clothes are going to start getting tighter. It’s time to get back on track again before I start packing on the pounds.

Goodbye Chocolate Cake- I’m going to miss you.

Snowed In-

As most of you have probably seen on the news, the Deep South is ‘frozen’.   It isn’t too bad here on the Coast, but the Atlanta airport has actually closed because they have so much snow that they can’t get flights in and out.   Places like NYC and Chicago are prepared for this kind of weather-  us Southerners are not.      So when the snowy weather sets in- everything comes to a screeching halt.

Of course, wouldn’t you know- that the two packages that I’m expecting are also sitting in the not-t00-hotlanta.   I hope that they’ll get here before we leave.  Then again- maybe we’ll get snowed in and trapped here in the Deep South.

Gratitude

Filed under: Gratitude — gardener @ 11:55 am

In spite of feeling very emotional about our trip home in 11 days, I’m feeling very grateful about so many things. My life is far from perfect (and I’m leary about anyone who says their life is perfect), but I am very blessed in so many ways.

I wanted to take a little time to share some of the things that I’m grateful for on this day.

My Gratitude List for January 9, 2011.

Today I’m Grateful for:

  • Being loved.
  • Friendship that has stood the test of time.
  • A warm home on a cold winter day.
  • Family and a husband who are healthy.
  • The opportunity to be able to spend 9 1/2 weeks at home with family and friends.

Techies

Filed under: Techy — gardener @ 10:07 am

Since I’ve been home and got mom and dad set up with new netbooks, I’ve also set them up a wireless network that they both seem to love. The one thing I find to be a little weird though is that when I’m sitting outside in the back yard, that I have a better Wi-Fi connection than I do when I’m actually in the living room of the house. It definitely makes sitting outside with the computer easy and on sunny days- it’s perfect. I may turn mom and diddy into techies yet.
