Making a List

I was on the phone with my brother last night while he was on his way home from work and one of us brought up the subject of Christmas. We haven’t spent the holidays together in two years and this year Marcel and I will spend two glorious months at home with my parents. He’s saved his vacation days all year so that it would be possible, and I can’t wait. Once we started talking about Christmas, the conversation turned to gift giving. I will be the first to admit that when we are home for the holidays, I tend to go a little overboard with the gift giving and Matt (my brother) said that one of his friends had just been given a really cool money clip with his initials and that he really liked it. I listened to him talk about it, and I made a mental note to check out engravable gifts to see if I could possibly get the money clip and add it to my brothers gift list for this upcoming Christmas.

I really love giving people things that I know they’ll like and even though gift cards can be nice from time to time, I have to say that I’d much rather give something a little more personal and I’ve seen personalized gifts that covers just about everything. My brother is also a huge fan of golf, so I’m seriously considering finding him something golf related that is personalized just for him. I know he’s going to love it and I’m going to love being home with everyone for the holidays.

Mind Rambles

Filed under: Life — gardener @ 4:15 pm

Ever have so much rambling around in your head that you can’t seem to concentrate on everything that you need to get done? Well, it has been one of those evenings for me. I should be thinking about unwinding and going to bed early tonight, but instead all I can think about is the list of things I need to get done this weekend.

Oh and I have a story to tell about popcorn, but it can wait until tomorrow.

Never Too Late for Change

I love it when I log in over here and I find a list of spam waiting to be deleted. It’s amazing some of the things that people think will actually get approved in terms of comments. While it may pass in some sites, it definitely won’t here. I guess they’ll never learn.

In other news- Things have been pretty busy here in the Land of Never. I have really been off kilter for a while and my to-do list has grown to enormous proportions. I need to find some 108r00727, plus some new shoes, and work on the two domains that I have bought and haven’t done anything with yet.

I have to say that I’m tired of that scatter brained feeling I’ve had as of late and it’s time to do something about it. It’s going to mean a lot of changes in my life, but I think I’m ready. All I can say is that it’s about time. I love the fact that it’s never too late for change. That makes me smile.

The Brain Game- Always Fascinating

I was thinking earlier about how amazing the human mind is.   There are times when I’ll be talking to my friend Samantha or someone who has known me for equally as long and they’ll bring up something that happened in the past.   Sometimes I’ll remember the moment and other times I won’t, or maybe I’ll remember it in a completely different way.

It’s funny how things that we haven’t thought about in years will suddenly pop into the forefront of our mind- like me remembering when my mom turned 30 (I was 10) and thinking (and possibly even telling her) that 30 was old.   Now, at 43 I can’t imagine ever thinking that 30 was old.  In fact, I don’t even see 60 as old anymore.  100 is what I consider to be old these days.    Yet, I still find it amazing that I would even remember such a tiny event in my life and wonder what caused me to hold on to that memory.

Have you ever wondered what makes us remember some small events, while completely forgetting others?   I wonder how the brain categorizes those moments and how it determines what stays and what goes.  I’ll forever remain fascinated at our bodies and how they work.

New Artforms

I’ll admit that it doesn’t take much to entertain me, which is probably why I am loving this new iPhone application that I downloaded called Percolator.   You run a regular picture through the application and it creates this whimisical piece of ‘circle art’.   I actually love it, and Marcel says he can’t tell what they are and thinks it’s silly.

It’s different, and since I dare to be different, I like it.   In case you were unsure as to what this is- it’s three sunflowers that I had in my archive from a few weeks ago.  I’ve taken some other old images and ‘transformed’ them, but I’ll probably share those in some of my other spaces.

Hope everyone is having a happy, safe Labor Day and is doing as little Labor as possible.

Sunday Rambles

Somewhere along the road of busyness and being sick far more times than I’m used to- the 5k training took a back seat to everything else. I will be the first to admit that I’m not overly thrilled about this, but the great thing is that I can always start again and pick up where I left off (or close to it).

I’m still not at 100% but thankfully I’m headed there. I’ve found that I’m very tired and on most mornings I’m sleeping far later than I’ve slept in a very long time. Obviously my body needs it, so I’m not complaining. I just hope it doesn’t need it for too much longer because I’m missing out on some precious daylight hours.

I’ve noticed over the past couple of days that the scent of fall is in the air. Some of you may not recognize it because it isn’t a particular scent, but a feel. The air has been cool for a while, but there is a sudden crispness that wasn’t there before. I find myself smiling and wanting to spend time outside of the house. I think I’m going to spend more time in the evenings sitting outside drinking coffee and watching the sun go down. It’s something small, but one of those things that brings a smile to my face and joy to my heart.

What brings a smile to your face?

Rush

Filed under: Sands of Time,Shop til ya Drop,Things I Love — gardener @ 9:46 am

Samantha’s twins are going through RUSH this weekend at school and we are both so excited for them. At this point, it is up in the air as to which sorority they’ll end up going with, but it’s exciting to hear all about it. I’m thinking about ordering them engraved gifts once they are chosen. I know how much they’ll love having something with their new ‘Greek letters’, so as soon as I find out who they are with, I’ll have to see what I can find. I wish I was a fly on the wall to hear all that they are experiencing this weekend. I know they’re having a blast. I would be too!

Day Brightener

Yesterday I received a package from my friend Sarah. I knew she was sending it, but I’d forgotten about it, so when it arrived it was a definate day brightener. It was a belated birthday and Christmas gift and the box was filled with goodies that I fell in love with. Something she sent that I’d never tried before is some Bath and Body Works hand soap with Orange Ginger scent. It is absolutely amazing. It’s still sitting here on my coffee table and I haven’t used it yet, but I keep opening the lid and taking a whiff. I love the combination of the two and it smells good enough to eat- although I’m not about to attempt that one.

Boys and their Toys

Two days ago, while I was laying on the couch, I saw that Marcel was looking online at ipods. I wasn’t really paying attention since I was in and out of sleep but later on that evening he told me that he was thinking it was time to get a new one. He’s has his current iPod for about 4 years now, and even though it doesn’t have the capacity of the newer ones; it still works perfectly. At the time I really didn’t have much to say, because I felt too bad to have any sort of discussion, but I suppose at some point he’s going to want to show me the one he wants. Something tells me it’s going to be one that plays video, but that’s just my guess. I’ll have to wait and see.

Fixing Whats Broke

I was thinking yesterday about how it is that I’ve been sick so many times this year (I think three) when there are other years that I have not been sick at all, aside from the general allergy and sinus problems that I always have. I really started thinking about my life this year and if there was anything ” I ” could have done differently and I have concluded that there are a couple of factors that have lowered my immune system- The first is the fact that I haven’t been exercising the way I should. Don’t get me wrong- I DO exercise, but I know I am not getting enough on a consistent basis. The second is the fact that this has been one of those years that has really played deeply on my emotions with the loss of so many people and so many others being very ill, plus some other struggles happening amongst people I love- it has taken a toll.

I really do believe this is the problem- now it’s time to fix it.
